"The frequency of rogue attacks is pretty much stable, Alpha," one of Adam's lead men informed him. "There hasn't been any sightings aside from a couple days ago. It seems to me like it was a single group, working alone."
"Still, until we can be sure about this, we need to bulk up security around the border. Three extra men per shift will be added." Adam said. Now that he had found his mate, he was especially concerned with border activity.
"As you say, Alpha." The man responded. The men shifted restlessly. They'd been in the meeting for two hours now, and were ready to leave.
"Before we break for the day, I wanted to update you on the man who came into town a couple days ago." David interjected, causing almost imperceptible sighs to break out across the room. In spite of what Mila might think, Adam actually did like to know all about the people that came into his town. He was thankful David kept him updated on the comings and goings of newcomers.
"Do you know more about him?" Adam asked his Beta.
"We've got a name. Marco Maccini. He's 45 years old and he's from Julian, California. Works at a company called 'Miracle Inc.'" David reported.
"Julian? Never heard of it," one of the men surrounding the table said.
"It's a small town an hour outside of San Diego." David reported. "From the looks of it, he lays low. Seems like a regular tourist," the Beta informed Adam.
"Alright, sounds good. The meeting is dismissed. We'll meet again at the same time on Tuesday." Adam informed the group. Everyone was quick to get up and leave, presumably to go get some lunch. Even David was in a hurry to leave.
Adam took out his phone and quickly found Mila's contact.
Hey Mila, I just got out of my meeting. Would you like to go to lunch with me?
Alright, maybe it was a bit cheesy to ask her out to lunch over the phone. He wouldn't consider this their first date, though. He would be romantic then. This was simply out of convenience.
A minute later, his phone buzzed. A smile was already playing on his lips when he saw the text message was from Mila. It dropped, though, when he saw her response.
I'm sorry, who's this?
Okay. So she was still upset from this morning. Adam felt a little guilty about leaving her when she was upset. He had to find a way to make her understand that he wasn't just being a possessive idiot, but that he actually had her best interests in heart.
Very funny. I'll pick you up and we can go to Vern's?
Vern's was one of Adam's favorite places to go. It was a laid back place, but the food was delicious. The majority of the staff were werewolves, too, which meant his service was extra nice. His phone buzzed again.
I'll meet you there in 10 minutes.
Adam couldn't help but feel disappointed. He had wanted to be able to smooth things over in the car. He didn't want to have things be awkward at the restaurant.
Plus, he was sure that driving Mila around in his sports car wouldn't hurt the situation.
Exactly 10 minutes later, Adam walked through the front door. It didn't take him long to see where Mila was seated. To his disappointment, there were also four other people sitting at the table.
"Hey, Adam," Mila called in greeting. Despite their argument this morning, she seemed awfully chipper.
"Hey Mila," Adam said as he walked over.
