"Goodnight, I guess," Mila said, biting her lip as she stood in the doorway to her room. Adam was shaking out the blanket he had been borrowing from her. He laid it down gently on the couch, and turned towards her.
"Goodnight," Adam said, a small smile playing on his lips as he examined her. He moved towards her, enveloping her in a hug. He pressed his lips onto her hair. "I really appreciate that you shared your past with me," he murmured. "I know that it must have been hard," he said.
Mila closed her eyes and wrapped her arms around his waist. He was very solid, she noted. Very solid, and very muscular. So, so...muscular. She could feel his muscles move against her as he pulled her a little tighter towards him. She couldn't help but let out a contented sigh.
"Thank you," she mumbled in reply.
"For what?" Adam asked. A normal person would have responded with something like 'thank you for being there for me', or 'thank you for listening', etc. Mila wasn't an ordinary person.
"Thank you for being so...fit," Mila said, smiling dreamily as she squeezed him. Adam couldn't help but laugh at her blunt comment. It made him feel proud that his mate recognized and appreciated his physique. It'd taken him many years, and long hours of training, to achieve it.
"Only the best for my girlfriend. Feel free to check me out, anytime, babe," Adam said with a smile. If she wanted to, she could do more than check him out.
Mila lifted her head and squinted her eyes at him. "Girlfriend?" She asked. Adam suddenly realized his mistake.
"Um. Yeah. Are you okay with that?" He asked.
"Well, I'm not sure. First off, you never even asked me. Secondly, I'm not sure if I want to be tied down. I think I want to keep my options open," Mila said nonchalantly. Teasing him was becoming her favorite past time.
"Who is it? It's Ryan, isn't it? I should've killed him when I had the chance," Adam growled, dropping his arms from around her and heading towards the door.
Mila laughed and grabbed his arm, pulling him back towards her. "Learn how to take a joke, babe," she said, giving him a kiss. Adam narrowed his eyes at her.
"Learn how to make one, sweetums," he mocked in return.
"Wow, you're really not getting yourself any closer to having a girlfriend," Mila said, starting to pull away. Adam let her go, watching as she headed closer to her bedroom. "I'm so generous letting you stay here," she said, sighing melodramatically. "And considering your behavior," she said, trying to keep a smile off her face, "I'm close to making you sleep out in the woods again." She pretended to look out the window. "Oh, and is that storm clouds I see?"
Adam groaned. She really wasn't going to let him win any arguments, was she? She had a lot of power over him, and she knew it. It really wasn't fair. He considered her words for a moment. Mila seemed to be bluffing; did he know her well enough to take that bet?
If he didn't, he was setting himself up for a lifetime of losing. As an Alpha, he couldn't handle that. He changed his face into a smile.
"You know, that actually works out for the best. I miss my own bed. As nice as your couch is, it's just not big enough for me to fit comfortably. I think I'll head back to the pack house. Thanks for the suggestion, Mila!" Adam said.
"What?" Mila asked, confused. This wasn't how their disagreements usually went. She'd tease him a little, they'd have a sweet talk, and everything would go back to normal. He wasn't allowed to change the rules. "You want to leave?" She asked, eyebrows furrowed as she tried to stop herself from pouting. She didn't want Adam to leave.
