"Please Conner, don't be like that." I said walking in my house.

He stopped and turned around. "No." he said, then ran up the stairs.

I put my bags on the couch then sat down. "What's wrong?" Julie asked me coming from the kitchen.

"I asked Conner to do something for me, and he said no." I told her. Maybe she'll understand.

"Is it something you care about?" She asked.

"Yes, yes it is." I told her.

She stood there in front of me with her long blonde hair in a ponytail, in an apron. "Conner isn't that rude. If he knows you care, he'll do it. Maybe not how you want it to be done, but it gets done." She said then smiled.

"Thanks Julie," I said. "What are you making? I'll help."

"I was thinking of making cake. You know, celebrate on our new family." she told me.

"That's great!" I told her.

Julie and I walked over into the kitchen and I started mixing the batter she put in.

"You know," Julie started to say. "I think it's great that Conner finally gets support of a good father. I remember when he was little, just about nine, he told me that he wanted a nice daddy. That he didn't like how 'that man' hurt his mommy. That he was glad I didn't marry Bill because Bill was abusive. There was this one tragic night. Bill was drunk and started driving. I called him and told him I'd come to pick him up, but he didn't listen. He got in a car accident was someone else. With a lady. His car pushed the ladies car in front of a forest full of trees. Bill survived. But the lady didn't. Just a week after was her funeral. Conner walked up to the family of Karren Thomas and said 'I apologize for what Bill has done. He wasn't a good man and I'm sure Karren was an amazing lady who didn't deserve this. Bill was the one who didn't deserve to live this life. He was the cruel one, not your wife. And I apologize, on behalf of him.' I was in tears when he said that. A nine year old boy went the family of Karren Thomas and said that. Conner was so careful after that. He would even send the family of Karren flowers on her death anniversary and birthday. But he didn't ever face them. He said he couldn't face them because of what Bill did to there family. Conner cares a lot for his family. He wouldn't let someone down. He doesn't like seeing people upset." she told.

It seems as if she may have forgotten I was here, because she began to cry. "Oh, I'm so sorry." She said.

"It's okay." I told her. I knew what she was talking about. The memory flashed into my mind.

~"Mommy! Mommy! Mommy, don't go! I need you!" I said while crying on the ground when suddenly a little boy, my age, came over me and daddy. I stopped crying to listen to what he has to say.

"I apologize for what Bill has done. He wasn't a good man and I'm sure Karren was an amazing lady who didn't deserve this. Bill was the one who didn't deserve to live this life. He was the cruel one, not your wife. And I apologize on behalf of  him." he said then walked over to his mother. His mother gave him a hug. Then he pulled away from her and wiped away her tears. Daddy went up to them and said thank you to them.

One year later

"Dad, the door. Dad! Never mind I'll get it." I shouted.

I opened the door and saw no one. I looked around, but no one was there. I was about to shut the door when I noticed something on our Welcome mat. It was flowers. I shut the door and walked into the kitchen where dad was sitting.

"Who was it sweetheart?" dad asked me.

I showed him the flowers. He asked me to hand them to him. He saw a card and read it out loud. " Dear Mr. Thomas, I'd like if you accept these flowers as an apology from me for what happened last year on this date. I'd be glad if you kept these flowers in your house, or put them on Karrens grave. -Conner" "
