" it's very heartwarming that you're learning for a family member." hanako sensei said, a hand over her heart as she spoke to me.

"i, do love my sister." i scratched my neck, half-smiling as i responded to her.

"what's her name? i'm sure she would be proud."

"fuyumi. fuyumi todoroki,"

"that's beautiful." she grinned. "well, i shouldn't be holding you too long, ill let you go now," my sensei laughed, patting me on the back as i gave her my farewell, walking out of the classroom and biking home.

"hello, shouto." the deep voice i hear startles me as i walk through the door, seeing my otousan walk toward the kitchen, the smell of curry filling my senses.

"hey, dad. where's natsu?" i responded, throwing my bag down as i threw myself down on the couch. "the house is too quiet for him not to be here."

"out, with your sister. ice cream." he said over the steaming sound of the stove.

i looked at him. "is it that hard to finish or start your sentences?"

he sent me a glare; letting myself shut up quickly. "i'm gonna go upstairs."

"hey, bastard. you heard 'bout the new kid?"

i sat down on my bed, listening as my friend rambled on the phone. "no, i haven't."

"well. 'parently he's mute."

my attention averted to my phone, speaking. "like, selective mute?"

"nah. kids deaf."

i thought for a second. "and exactly how, do you know this?"

"my momma told me, sayin' i had to show him 'round the damn school. it's gonna be awkward as shit," bakugou replied, sighing over the speaker. "i'll do it anyways though. can't be all that bad."

"yeah, yeah." i said, still curious.

"how'd the language class go today?" he spoke after a moment. "is it hard?"

"it is, but i feel like i'll get the use of it. not being able to speak to fuyumi directly can get frustrating. plus— i feel good learning about it. i don't know why, the class just gives off a good vibe"

"mhm, yeah, 'nuff said about the mushy shit.." he exclaimed, making me laugh.

"shouttoooo!" i heard a familiar voice call from downstairs, opening my mouth to inform bakugou-kun. "hey man, i gotta go."

"alright, just make sure you aren't late tomorrow. hate goin' to first period alone—"

"yeah yeah i know." i cut him off quickly, ending the phone call as i stepped downstairs to find fuyumi and natsuo.

"we brought ice cream for you!" onii-san signed, making me smile before natsu handed a cone over to me.

"thank you." i tried signing back, getting confirmation as my older sister nodded.

as i licked down my vanilla cone, natsu eyed me. "you're going to sleep early mister."

"i know, jeez." rolling my eyes, fuyumi giggled quietly.

as i went up back into my room, i plugged in my headphones and finished my homework. being a second year is tiring.

after being done with that, i soon was occupied with nothing to do. i laid in my bed; putting everything away and shutting my eyes.

'new kid... huh?'
