I awake and notice a very familiar feeling. Deciding to act upon this feeling I get up, go to the toilet and walk out to the kitchen. In particular, the fridge. I open it to see if leftovers made its way inside. To my surprise I see before me food...

I finish up and think for a minute on what I should do. That's when John appears with his favoured mug. He makes his usual morning coffee and sits beside me. " how are you partner?" I look up at him " could be better, you?" He smirks "absolute shit" we both begin to laugh at that. Until I realised what he was referring to. A month prior John was in the worst predicament. Protecting Choley was his main focus as it should be. But this caused him to be caught in a crossfire, permanently injuring him. The man sitting beside me was a new man, he looked unscathed, unbothered by the events. However having known John for at least 5 years, you learn a lot about what he hides deep within himself. He was in pain, in many ways both physical and mental. Close inspection of his left side head shows scarring from a surgical procedure that took place a month prior. In the same moment I looked I focused on not letting him see that I saw. I looked back down at my plate. It comforts him to know his vulnerabilities lie hidden. "When are you going to tell Choley you are leaving?" He asks suddenly. I am stunned for a moment before answering. "I don't know, when everything dies down with us all I guess." I ponder on my words. "It's been a month" he pauses as if what he were about to say took a lot to say. That's when I know its important. He continues "I'm better now. if your worried about me? I'm fine." I sigh at his brave notion. "John it's not just you. I'm spending my time here to ensure you and Choley are beyond the events that happened. And that my leaving won't cause more grief. And by doing that I've also got to get over it and other things. I've lost focus on my work and am behind. And when I said I was going over cold cases I was also catching up with my other workings"
