It was a Tuesday. Which meant that it was an odd sort of day. Tuesdays can't be described as anything other than odd. All other days in a week have feelings and descriptions set aside for them, but not Tuesdays.
Monday is the beginning of the week; people tend to dislike Mondays. Mondays tend to become the day of dread, the day the week starts, the day you have to start school or work all over again. Monday is the leader of the week. All the other days follow Monday. If you have a bad Monday, chances are you will continue to have that feeling of bad lurking around in the back of your head for the majority of the rest of the following days in that week.
It makes sense, if you don't think too hard about it, that Mondays would be disliked. Most leaders in this time are not liked. Everything and anything they do is bad to someone, even if the leader before them did the same thing and that same someone applauded them. Leaders can never have everyone love them. It is one of those unwritten laws that you don't know, you just feel.
Aftter Tuesday comes Wednesday. Wednesday is the middle of the week. It is a controversial day. Some people hate Wednesdays, and other people thoroughly enjoy them.
Almost everyone loves Fridays. They are the ends of the week. They bring up the caboose. People like cabooses, too. Because once the caboose passes, you can finally drive your car over the tracks. You don't have to wait anymore for the train.
Well, people used to love cabooses. Now they don't give them any thought at all. Once the governments started shipping top secret materials on trains, the tracks were moved underground. Governments couldn't risk people seeing their plans. Or having a train derail and then having the media report on it. If the media reported it, then everyone knew. If there was anything on the train that the government didn't want anyone to see, even the smallest poison dart, the media couldn't report it, because no one could know. And so, the trails were all moved underground about ten years ago.
Thursday is the day before Friday. People love Fridays so much, that they love Thursdays too. Thursdays are rushed and discarded as quickly, or as slowly, as they arrive. No one gives much thought to Thursdays except that it is the day before Friday.
People give less thought to Tuesdays. Because Tuesdays are simply there. You can't hate a Tuesday, there's no reason to. People don't hate Mondays enough to have that hate carried on into Tuesdays. As I mentioned before, Tuesdays are simply there. They are just a day.
And so, Tuesdays have always been an odd sort of day. But the Tuesday in question was odder than usual. It was the right amount of odd to not be some other day that happens to be odd, but to be an extremely odd Tuesday.
