I laid back on a sun lounger, taking in the warmth and feeling the breeze of a summers day. "Ah, this is the life" I mutter wistfully and sip on my piña colada. "Sun, sea and relaxation is all I need".
I opened my eyes and looked over the scene infront of me. It was a wooden deck type area on a hill with a glass barrier around it. A pool sat infront of me and a view of the beach that was to kill for. You could see the waves from here. It was beautiful."Dont you think running away from your problems will just make them worse, Sarah?" A voice says from next to me. He wore black shorts with a white tshirt that had a blue hawaiin shirt ontop of it, unbuttoned. He also wore black ray-ban sun glasses and sat on the other sunbed sideways so that he was facing me. His hair was greying, not the mousy-brown or orange he had dyed it anymore. You could just about make out what colour it used to be.
"Maybe, but I'd rather be far away from them" I reply "who would want to miss out on this?".
"Prehaps. But thats not the Jones' way is it?" He asks.
"Or prehaps its not the Bowie way" I reply, prehaps a little too hostile "cant you go and annoy Jess or something, thats what you usually do".
"Maybe. But I'm here to give you some advice for a change. Dont run away without at least trying to fix it first" he places his hand on my shoulder "sometimes its really not as big as it seems, you've just got to persevere and-".
---------I woke up with a start, literally sitting up like the world was about to end. The alarm didnt help. I hit the button to stop it with full force, almost breaking the thing, and basked in the silence for a minute. My eyes glanced at the digital clock on it, eight thirty. I dragged myself out of bed and put my slippers on, then somehow managed to get down the ladder and into the rest of the house. I found my way downstairs and behold, the family was already around the table for breakfast. There was toast, cereal, butter, jam and a glass jug of milk in the middle of the table, also orange juice and water, for whichever you prefered. Some fruit also sat in a bowl but that was always kept on the table so I didnt count it.
"Morning Sweetie" Meg smiles as I sit at the table with everyone "ready the day ahead?"."As always" I reply nonchalantly and pour some plain cornflakes into a bowl.
"Nice to see you're chipper this fine morning, Sarah" Noel comments from opposite me.
"Dont swear around, Beth, Noel. I hate to keep reminding you" Meg scolds him.
"I hate to keep reminding yer her name is Eliza" Noel replies back through gritted teeth.
"Well I have to go out today so you wont have me in the way" I reply, Ignoring the beginnings of their argument.
"Well, I've nothing to do, it's a boring day already" Eliza says, shovelling cereal into her mouth next to me.
"I know, Lizzie, but sometimes those are the best days" I smile "you can watch a movie or play outside. Whatever you like".
"Well Sarah just called her Lizzie, aren't you gonna call her out on that?" Meg asks Noel smugly, I had forgotten they were arguing for a second.
"No?" He says almost like a question.
"Why not?" She retorts. I couldnt even get a word in sideways now.
"Cause Sarah's always called Eliza that since she were a baby. You just call her anything thats not her name because thats another fuckin' thing that was Jess' wasn't it?" Noel was definitely winning this one "another thing to throw out because you cant handle the fact I loved her once. That we had a life before you. Why dont you just go the full monty and throw the whole damn child out? She's already at Violet's four days a week anyway".
