It was a sunny kind of day in April. The sort where its comfortable enough to wear a t-shirt and shorts but its not baking hot. There was a cool breeze blowing through the trees making a relaxing rustling sound in the branches. I sat in the dining hall of my school and took a bite out of my sandwich, chicken club, not the best sandwich in the world but it was the best out of the choices we got. You always had to get to the cafeteria early to get one because they sold out fast. Only because the only other options were bland; plain cheese, cheese and tomato, cheese and pickle, ham and cheese, tuna cucumber.
A blonde girl with a navy blue scrunchie in her high ponytail and a weary look on her face sat opposite me. She was wearing a hoodie even though they weren't allowed in the school, not that she cared much. Her green eyes looked tired and distant. She placed her purple book bag on the seat next to her and smiled at me weakly. It had been a long time, over a year since she last spoke to me. She'd got in with the popular crowd and stopped hanging out with me. At first we still walked to school together and spoke in the corridors like we had for years previous. Slowly that stopped and soon turned into a smile and a wave in the corridor, then just a smile, then nothing at all. "Hey" she mutters.
"Hello?" I reply, almost as if it was a question. It was more of a 'what are you doing here?' than a 'hello'.
"Long time no see huh? How are you holding up?" She asks.
"Fine, I guess".
"You still in therapy?".
"Yes. Whats it any of your business anyway?".
"Im just asking" she throws her hands up as she defends herself.
"Well dont 'just ask' Ruth, you havent been around enough to just ask" I reply "been too busy hanging around with Carmen Tilsley and her sheep".
She shrugs "yeah well, I wont be around them anymore".
"Is this an attempt at running back to me like I said you would over a year ago?".
"No nothing like that" she scoffs but it doesnt seem convincing. She had been my best friend for over eight years, yet I couldnt forgive her for dumping me for them like that when I needed her most. Now she things im just gonna take her back. If it was six months ago I probably would but not now.
"Because if it is I want you to know, sitting opposite me in lunch and being nice isnt gonna cut it".
"I know. I just wanted to know if you were ok, Sunny, I do care. I know it doesnt seem it but I worry alot about you".
"Yeah well dont" I reply and take another bite of my sandwhich. I realise she hasnt got anything. "arent you eating anything?" I ask her. She shakes her head. I sigh and push the other half of my sandwich towards her.
"Thank you" she smiles.
"Yeah this doesnt mean that I've forgiven you Ruth".
"I know" she mutters and bites into it like she hasnt eaten in days. I wondered what happened between her and the other girls but never asked.
--------It was still dark when I woke up but birds were tweeting so that meant it mustve been early morning. I sat up and looked around, I wasnt at Noel's or Liam's... infact I wasnt quite sure where I was, somebody's livingroom. I swung my legs off the sofa and looked around, none of this was familliar to me at all, though it being dark and me being hung over didnt help. Suddenly I heard heavy footsteps coming toward the room from elsewere in the flat.
"Sarah? Sarah wake up, we need to leave now" Violet shouts from the hallway "Liam get my coat".
