Sky always knew she wanted to be in the fashion industry. At the young age of nine looking up at the T.V. screen seeing the headlines on what stars wore what at the Met Gala, what new ideas were formed in creators heads as their models walked down the aisle during the Victoria’s Secret fashion show. Knowing that she could make someone feel like they’re on top of the world with what she conjured up with her bare hands and maybe a sewing machine gave her a thrill she couldn’t hide… ever. You could always tell when she was focused on a piece, eyes slit with determination and eager, jet black curly hair in a messy bun with loose curls falling down the side of her smooth fully melanin skin, face often unmasked, her hands moving in a way some called angelic and effortless.

“Hey, Sky,” Marcus said putting a hand on my shoulder shaking it slightly, “did you hear me?”

“Uh.. no, what did you say again,” I questioned as I closed my locker turning my body towards him. I always doze off in my own head, thoughts wavering.

“You never listen to me I swear,” he said with a shake of his head his curly hair vibrating with every turn, “anyways I asked did you apply to the University of Bridgeport yet,” he finished with a smile so big his eyes almost shut close.

I sighed in response. He always does this...literally everyday. I’ve told him countless and countless of times that I can’t go over to Connecticut with him neither do I want to either. Ever since he got accepted into Yale for law he hasn’t stopped pressuring me to apply for the closest college near there since.

“No. I haven’t Marcus,” I said as I watched his face drop to a well known scowl like everytime it does when I tell him I haven’t.

“Really Sky,” he said as his voice dropped down deeper than I ever heard before.

Okay well that’s new I thought as the warning bell rung alerting wandering students that time was ticking down and you should get a move on or a tardy pass was in your future.

“Yes really Marcus, now I have to get to class so please let’s just drop it okay,” I said grabbing my maroon bookbag off the floor heading in the direction of my class to make sure I wasn’t late.

“Wait, Sky i’m serious you have to apply it’s getting late and you know we won’t,” Marcus semi- yells as he walks up, grabbing my unoccupied wrist turning me back to face him, “last with a long distance relationship’’ he ends still holding on to my wrist with a tight grip.

“How do you know that Marcus,” I yelled, “do you not trust me that much to go a few weeks without seeing me sometimes, come on,” I continued attempting to pull my wrist from his tight grip, but he wouldn’t let go.

“Marcus let me go,” I breathed out, “now.”

“This isn’t over Sky, trust me it isn’t,” he said dropping my wrist forcefully as he grabbed his book bag from the hallway floor brushing past me to go to his first period.

Blowing out a breath I've been holding since this conversation started, I turned on my heels and headed to the direction of the tardy station to the right end of the hall as I was now 2 minutes late to first period.

Before I could step foot onto the welcome mat of my beloved home after school I heard muffled yelling. Shaking my head in defeat, this feeling and sound all too familiar. There were numerous things they could be yelling about. My father not paying the bills even though he has a rich man’s salary, him not coming home until this morning, or they could be finally breaking it off, which I’ve been wanting to happen as long as I've been yearning to be a fashion designer.
