Chapter 7: Looming

(Y/N) POV

    It's been some time since we've set sail and left Ninjago behind, the departure still fresh in my mind as I lightly touched my lips. I stared at the rolling ocean waters, my stomach tossing and turning with each rock of the boat. We had climbed to the back of the boat to wave their-our home goodbye. This was my home now, one I planned to keep safe for the rest of my days. Dareth had been standing high on a pillar, waving to us as cheers echoed behind him and the crowds of people waved. Jay's mom lovingly asked if her son had packed clean underwear, embarrassing the poor teen beyond belief.

    As the hours passed, the sun had begun to set as we moved towards the front of the Bounty, staring ahead towards the looming danger-and possible end. I sucked in a breath and moved closer to Lloyd as I stared at the waves. I felt awful but his arms around my waist was a clear distraction. What were we headed into? Why was I doing this willingly without a fight? I'm so scared, what if we don't make it? If we don't make it through this fight? I don't want to die, not now! I want to know how I feel for the green ninja, get to know these boys, Nya, Sensei, and maybe Misako. I don't know what I feel towards her. Sympathy? Respect? 

    I didn't realize I had been shaking until Lloyd's arms tightened around my waist slightly after he'd turned me around to face him. "Are you alright?" His voice was soft as he leaned down closer to me, observing my features.

   "Yeah, I'm fine-" I began but was quickly cut off.

    "Oh yeah, yeah. Just peachy, ya know. Since we're heading straight for an island of pure darkness and evil and will probably die-oh. You were talking to (Y/N)..." Jay spoke, turning around to see me roll my eyes. I giggle softly and shift out of Lloyd's arms to walk towards Jay. I hug his waist lightly and after a moment his arms circle my shoulders as he chuckles softly.

    "We'll make it, we'll be fine. Just a few bumps and scratches, if that! Right boys?" I smile, moving away from Jay to look at the other two males as Zane proceeds to climb the stairs towards us, his head low. "You alright, Zane? Still haven't heard from Falcon?" 

    "No, not yet," he said solemnly, walking to stand in the center of the ninja and stare out at the waters. I stayed back, my expression turning sad as I stared at my friend. With a sigh, Kai turns his head, prepared to change the subject.

    "I wonder what's on the island," Kai spoke as he turned his head towards the opposite direction.

    "An entirely new ecosystem?" Zane questioned.

    "Never-before-seen creatures?" Cole suggested.

    "Upending death and doom?" I murmured underneath my breath. The males stopped and stared at me in shock as I lightly shrugged. "What? Someone's gonna die, ya know." 

   "Uuh..yeah..oo! Ooo! Vegetables that taste like dessert?" Jay stupidly asked excitedly. 

    "I hope the stone army is there; they may have gotten the best of us once but never again," Kai spoke with a gentle smile, causing us all to smile in return.

    "Yeah! You've got that right!" I chirped and grabbed his hand, throwing ours into the air. Jay grabbed mine, yelling 'Here! Here!' as he pumped our fists into the air. We let go laughing at our actions as Lloyd began to speak.

    "I wonder if this is the end of our destiny..." Lloyd murmured as he glanced between the each of us before his eyes rested on mine. I pounced at him, without thinking, tackling the boy to the ground. 

    "No, no, no. That's my job. I'm supposed to say that. Even if it is, at least we're all together." I smiled down at him, listening to the murmurs of agreement behind us. "And in any case, we have to make it if you'd like to know whether I want to go on that date or not," I whisper and give him a soft peck on the lips before standing up. He rolls his eyes and takes my extended hand as an aid to stand. I jump as Zane's body tenses and his eyes go blue as a soft beeping could be heard. Lloyd keeps his hand in mine as we stare at our friend patiently waiting.

    We had moved to the control center in hopes to see what Zane could see. His falcon had made it to the dark island and was showing him what it looked like. What we should expect. Zane had these large goggles on and pressed a pink-red button, explaining we should now be able to see what he could. We all stood before the large screen, jaws dropped and in eye at the sight before us. 

    Faces turned solemn, curious, and hesitant as we all stared. Before us, we could see large, odd-colored bushes and looming trees as the falcon swept low towards the ground. All of sudden an object was thrown towards the falcon and the screen went fuzzy and Zane was thrown backward by some unseen force.

    "..he's...gone.." Zane whispered as he stared ahead blankly. My heart ached for my friend as I crossed the room to him and extended my hand out and helped him stand-the best I could for a teen made of steel and mechanics. Not saying Zane's fat or anything...

    "We don't know that," Sensei said solemnly as he was helped to stand from his chair. Nya made a small sound as her and her brother crossed the room towards us.

    "Zane..I'm so sorry." She murmured as she gave him a gentle hug.

    "He was our friend, too," Kai spoke moments after, "so we're not going to let him go in vain." Zane began shaking his head at Kai's words, closing his eyes with a frown. "If the stone army wants a fight, they got one!" I smiled and nodded as I took a step back, glancing behind me. My eyes widened some as I stared out the window. 

    "They'll get a fight but that'll have to wait. We're heading straight into a storm!" I spoke and headed towards the window. I leaned around the wheel and stood on my toes as I peered out.

    "All hands on deck!" Misako cried, waving around briefly. Lightning crashed ahead as thunder boomed loudly in the sky. I flinched, memories racing through my head. We all rushed and ran around to do as we were told. The storm was a bad omen for the danger looming ahead.
