They spent their summer talking back and forth, developing a relationship that they hoped would carry into high school. The first few months went more than swell and he asked her to homecoming. She, of course, being the romantic she was, gushingly accepted. Her friend had also been asked to homecoming; though, after the event, her date declared he loved her. She didn't love him; it had only been a month since they had met. People talk, and somehow their relationship got spun into a story to the point where administration had to pull people out to ask them about what was happening. You may be wondering what the original two have to do with the girl's friends, but it's because her friend asked her to ask the boy what he knew about the rumors. Unbeknownst to her, this was the fray of the thread holding the two together beginning to unravel. So she asked for her friend, for that's what friends do, but instead of getting an answer, she got an opinion to which she disagreed upon. Upset with him, the thread unraveled even more.
She stopped speaking to him but wanted to fix things and decided to talk to him in person instead of through text. This went horribly, so she decided she would leave the situation be unless he initiated conversation. He didn't.
Almost a full year after the whole catastrophe, she texted him "happy birthday" for it was the day the seemingly wonderful soul had come into the world. He didn't reply and later called her fake. The fading thread snapped.
