AKISHNA POV

The Palaces of the Panchala bloodline, especially my small district of 52 villages was always filled with joy and laughter but not today; silence and uneasiness permeated the air, the inhabitants went about their designated duties nervously as they were warned of the arrival of the foreboding King of the Kushan Kingdom.

Since my fourteen summer father had given me a gift of my own district which borders the ruthless Kushans. Today the negotiations were happening in my palace to facilitate easy transportation of both parties.

The Kushans were known for their ruthlessness in war and diplomacy in peace, their empire spanned from present day Afghanistan to the middle of India. Everyone was scared shitless except me Akishna, which translates to "pure".

I am the last born of all the king's children, all twelve of them. Being of sixteen summers my father has decided to begin selection of a suitable bridegroom after the most humiliating spectacle in the royal court.

After I revealed my attraction to men, my enraged mother dragged me to the royal hall, just imagine the look on the king's face when he saw his beloved crying, her sari carelessly draped as if she was raped, her hair tangled from the commotion, it was a rare occurrence. The assembled were shocked and flabbergasted as her shrieks filled the room.

She roughly pushed me unto the floor explaining the situation to my father; I remained on the cold marble, scared for my life. You see it was legal and allowed, practically acceptable for two men to cohabit and live together, even my third brother, Adesh, was married to a man but the difference being he was the dominant.

My mother however thought I was a submissive and was angry that I kept the "secret" from them when I only discovered this two days ago.

"Is it true that you like men Akishna?" Asked my father in a low tone filled with betrayal and hurt. My father and I were pretty close, he has allowed me freedom and unconditional love throughout life, I was sheltered and cocooned thus I was not surprised at his reaction.

"Yes Apa." I replied never making eye contact with him, tears tracing my perfect face falling slowly to the cold tiles. I was ashamed for not telling my father.

I pained at the emotions going through his head, pained at the hatred my mother spewed.

"Then we will start the process of finding his Husband." he said in a level tone.

"NO!" I screamed, lifting my upper body.

"Arya (Master) is this the way your child speaks to you?" Asked my mother in a condescending tone, I really hated the woman at times and right now is one of those times.

"Apa please, I do not want to marry, I do not want to be a man's property, a slave to his desires, his toy. Apa I am begging you do not agree to this." I cried helplessly.

"Leave us." My father commanded.

"I cannot keep you here my beloved boy, it is the duty of a ksytriyas (Ruling Class) to get married and start a family. Your marriage will bring us a much needed alliance."
