"That's it!" James Potter thought angrily. "I'm officially done with Lily Evans!".

He made his way to one of the benches in the park he was currently walking around in and sat down, scowling. James was stewing in anger, muttering angrily to himself. He was almost furious at Lily Evans. Even after the millions of times she'd rejected him and hurt his feelings, he still couldn't be mad at her.

A couple minutes later, a woman sat down next to him, and she was carrying a large box which she set in her lap. James was still distracted, but eventually James's curiosity got the best of him, and he peered over to the woman. She had opened the box, and in it was a large, gooey chocolate cake. She was taking a bite out of one of the slices when he asked, "Are you going to eat all that by yourself?"

"Yes. Do you have a problem with that?" she said fiercely.

"No!" He said quickly, startled by her tone. "It's just that... well, don't most women care about watching their weight and stuff? Not that you need to watch your weight," he added quickly.

"Well I'm not most women," she replied.

"I can tell," he said grinning. She frowned at him suspiciously and then turned away and took another bite of her cake. James continued watching her in fascination. She was so unlike Lily, with her dark brown hair, and olive colored skin. Her eyes were honey colored, golden almost. James had never admired any other females, his eyes were always on Lily, but now that he officially gave up on her, he had no reservations. With that thought, he immediately resolved to stop thinking about Lily.

"Look, can you stop staring? I know I'm a messy eater." James blushed, and then smirked. She had chocolate smeared all around her mouth, and she had a small dot of chocolate frosting on her nose. It was a funny sight, and also a bit cute.

"Sorry, it's just... nothing." She looked at him again. Then she asked, "Why are you in a bad mood?"

"What? How could you tell?" he said, hoping he hadn't been too obvious.

"I have special powers," she replied.

James stared at the woman. Was she a witch?

She laughed. "I'm just kidding."

James flushed and cleared his throat. "Right, I knew that."

"It's just that you were frowning when I sat down, and you were were glaring at nobody in particular. I don't know, I guess I've always been pretty good at reading people."

She smiled at him sympathetically and offered him some cake. While they were eating, James explained about his infatuation with Lily, and how it had finally ended. The woman sympathized with him.

"Oof, that's rough. But it seems like Lily doesn't deserve your affection. You're better off without her."

"Thanks," he said. "My friends also thought so too."

"Your friends? Tell me about them," she answered. So James preceded to tell her all about the many pranks they'd played together. By the end of the story, they were both laughing so hard they almost choked on the chocolate cake.

"Your friends sound really amazing," she said smiling but there was a hint of sadness in her eyes.

"What about you? What are your friends like?" James asked.

"I don't really have such close friends. I mean, I don't have a best friend or something like you do with your 'Marauders'."

"That's ok," he said. "I'm sure you'll have that someday." She looked down at the cake.

"Maybe."

James suddenly groaned. "I'm so full."

She laughed. "Me too, I don't think I can eat another bite."

"Even looking at the cake makes my stomach hurt."

"Let's give it to a homeless person." They got up and offered it to a woman that was holding up a "HUNGRY" sign.

"Wow, it's dark!"

"Yeah, time really flew by when we were chatting." James looked at his watch and realized he was an hour late to meeting up with his friends.

"Oh no! I'm really, really, late! I have to go!" he said, gathering all of his stuff.

"Oh," she said dejectedly. "Well, have fun. It was nice talking to you."

James quickly explained. "I'm meeting up with Sirius and Remus along with Alice, Frank, Marlene, Mary and... uh oh.  Lily's going to be there too." James paused. "Actually, I don't really think I want to go."

"Yeah?" the woman asked.

"Yeah. Do you want to walk around with me for a bit?" James looked at her hopefully.

"Sure! I have nothing else to do." James grinned. He was for some reason, really looking forward to spending more time with the muggle woman he had just met only a few hours ago. And with that, James stopped. He realized he didn't even know her name. The woman looked at him curiously.

"Why'd you stop?" she asked.

"Well, I just wanted to know what your name was."

"Oh! Um, I'm Kat Bryony."

"Nice to meet you Kat Bryony! I'm James Potter."
