I woke up that morning did my usual routine. Jim was right, I missed his presence in the morning. I felt a little sad about not seeing Jim again but continued to shower anyway. I had to get a grip. I had finally gotten my life back and I was thankful for that.
So I got dressed for work and on my way there I stopped at a little café to get a mocha cappuccino. Nothing like a good cup of coffee in the morning.
When I walked through the doors at work and saw the manager walking towards me and I began stressing, looking for every possible way out, but never the less I had to face him. I expected him to yell at me or tell me to stick my job but to my surprise, he threw my apron at me and started yelling orders. That was a little weird but not taking any chances I get straight to work.
After about eight o'clock I packed my apron away ready to go home, but that all got crushed when Cindy, one of the waitresses came over to me. We weren't best friends but usually, she would cover for me and I for her. She was actually nice and the first one who helped me on my first day of working here.
"Um... Scarlet, may I please ask you a favour?" She asked pleadingly.
"Yeah Cindy, What's up?" I said.
"Can you please cover my shift tonight. I have to take Emily to her dad's and there are a few things that need my attention? I promise I will return the favour" She asked. I knew she couldn't get out of this one. Her ex-husband was a douche. He divorced her when he found out she got pregnant, only to get half of all her things and then after her daughter, Emily turned six he wanted to see her. Long story short Cindy was in a bad predicament.
"Sure Cindy just go don't worry about anything," I said winking at her with a soft smile.
"Thank you Scar I owe you big time," she said already rushing towards the door.
"Enjoy," I said but knew she couldn't hear me. So just like that I went to the back room again to put on my apron. As I made my way back to cover her tables I saw the doors open but went on with my work however, everyone's attention was towards the few men that walked in. I didn't look up because there was always a scene when there were big rich men in fancy dressed suits making sure to get everyone's attention. I hated the rich they always showed off the money, fame and power. How I wish they could all - but before I could finish that sentence in my head I bumped into a woman dropping the tray with knives and forks everywhere.
"Oh my God I am so sorry" I went on apologizing and dropped down to pick up the pieces from the floor by this time all the people in the restaurant looked at us.
"Don't worry dear it happens to everyone, it was just an accident" the woman said making me lookup. She looked in her mid-seventies and was really beautiful for her age. Her soft smile made her face wrinkle up and some of her grey hair fell from her bun.
"Sorry I didn't look where I was going"I rambled on.
"What's your name dear?" she asked out of nowhere.
"Um... Scarlet, Scarlet Santoro" I said standing straight again and looked at all the people staring at me.
"Don't mind them" she looked at the people and all of a sudden they went on back to what they were doing.
"Such a beautiful name for a beautiful lady I'm Anna Devoski," she said still giving me the soft smile.
"It is a pleasure to meet you, wait..." My eyes grew big when I remembered who she was.
"Oh my, you're the Anna Devoski the fashion designer and editor of Vogue. I almost stabbed the editor of Vogue with knives and forks" Okay maybe I was over exaggerating but luckily it wasn't food or ketchup or I would have messed up that beautiful dress of hers. That would have been a disaster. She just laughed at my comment.
