The Angels

"It's beautiful," said Jessica, staring at the staircase.

It was. It appeared to be made of regular bricks but it glowed so it had a dipped in gold look.

I drew the Blade from my jacket. There was a wrong feeling surrounding the staircase.

A la television, a transparent form of the man stepped out of his broken body, sighed, and stepped onto the staircase, sliding up like an escalator.

We stepped into the intersection, avoiding staring into the man's dead, unmoving eyes.

I placed my foot on the first step. It flashed red and then the rest of the stairs followed suit one after another.

I looked at the Devil who could only manage "Oh shi-" before the sky ripped open like wet toilet paper and six figures poured out, landing next to us. The staircase vanished.

"Lucifer, no surprise," said the closest figure, he looked identical to the Devil but he had white hair and glowed like the stairs.

 Michael," the Devil grunted angrily.

Out of nowhere, the Devil yelled, "surprise attack!" and punched Michael in the face, sending him flying into a car which was smashed and flung into a store. Left behind was a sulfuric fog.

The other angels drew their swords which appeared to be made from clouds which I thought was ridiculous until one nicked my side.

I stabbed the culprit in the chest which caused a burst of white light to pour from the wound. It stopped and my victim fell. I picked up his sword and threw it to Jessica who was currently fending off an angel with a rolled up newspaper as the angel flew around her.

She caught the sword and sliced the angel's wings, sending him crashing into a dress store window.

Beside me, the Devil and Michael fought hand to hand, producing sparks where ever they made contact.

An angel stabbed through my left leg and flung me into the side of a passing car.

I slammed into the car, crushing it like aluminum foil and sending it off course into a traffic light. I flipped over the car and hit the ground hard.

My side burned, I guessed that I had broken a rib or two but I jumped onto the roof of the car and sunk the Blade into the angel's skull, his head melted. And I landed on him, his body absorbing all of the shock and I rolled off.

Jessica took a sword jab to the arm but was otherwise ok. She threw her sword into an angel's eye then started fighting another.

A pair of hands grabbed me under my arms and I started rising into the air rapidly.

I slashed blindly at the angel which proved to be difficult. I somehow managed to sink the Blade into their temple and along with the body, I plummeted to the ground.
