I've never seen Harry as pale as he is right now. It's now morning and after a long night of insomnia we were sat down at breakfast, just agonisingly waiting for the first task to begin. Harry pokes at some scrambled egg on his plate and pushes a piece of bacon around, he has dark circles under his eyes and eating nothing is not going to help.
"Harry, please just eat that." Hermione said in frustration, after looking at Harry pushing it around his plate for a while.
"I'm not hungry." He says and finally placed his fork down. His expression was blank and I could see a million thoughts going through his head. He crosses his arms and I pout at him, raising one eyebrow. He looks up at me, rolls his eyes and vigorously takes a piece of toast from my plate and takes a bite before dropping it back down, harshly.
"Happy?" He spits
"Oh come on." I say, annoyed, "we're only trying to help, we get that you're on edge-"
"On edge! I'm about to fight a dragon, Olivia, wouldn't you be a little more than on edge?"
I look down into my lap. I know he's scared and overwhelmed but it still hurts deep down when he talks to me like that.
In the time we have left for breakfast, Harry manages a rasher of bacon and chews on a fried egg for a while, which I guess isn't too bad. My nerves are crashing around inside me like harsh waves on a rock. I just need to let it out. To scream. He can't die, not yet. I've barely even got to know him I cannot loose him. I just can't.
The atmosphere of the hall this morning was tense. It was filled with a light buzz of chatter, of which was all about the task. Harry seemed to be paying no attention to anybody, with the exception of those being aimed directly at him, which I could tell really made a dent in his confidence. Lessons were to stop at midday today, to give everyone time to gather in the temporary arena they made especially for the First Task.
Time seemed to be treating us poorly today. Our first lesson, Charms, seemed to pass by within a second; however our lesson before lunch, History of Magic, no matter how hard I tried to distract myself, never wanted to end. To take my mind off things, I get out my sketchbook and some pencils and begin drawing patterns al over the page to keep preoccupied.
In what I thought was no time at all, we were sat in the Great Hall once again, having lunch and waiting for those absolute dreaded words...
"Mr Potter, the champions have to go down into the grounds now... ready for the First Task." Profess McGonagall said, I could see the fear behind her eyes as she patted Harry's shoulder. "You better go too, Miss Potter." I nod and give her a reassuring smile.
Harry and I exit the Hall along with Professor McGonagall after saying goodbye to an extremely anxious Hermione. She leads us down the stone steps and into the grounds, towards the forest where the dragon enclosure was. She comes to a halt and places both hands on Harry's shoulders, taking a deep breath and speaking.
"Now... don't panic, just keep a cool head... we've got wizards on hand to control the situation if it gets out of control. The main thing is to do your best. Are you alright, the both of you?"
Harry and I both nod, although I knew she could tell we weren't exactly being completely truthful. She tried to ignore this and led us towards a large white tent that had been placed in a clearing of trees and obviously shielding us from the view of the dragon enclosure.
"You're to go in there and join the other champions. Mr Bagman will talk you through everything you need to know," she said in a shaky voice, "Try not to worry, I'm sure you'll be fine. Good luck."
She leaves us both at the entrance of the tent and we enter it. Inside the tent, were all three of the other champions: Fleur seemed rather paler than usual and she didn't have her normal glow on her skin, she looked rather ill and run down. Krum was looking rather calm, but was breathing heavily and Cedric was pacing back and forth, and he gave me a smile when I walked in.
