Sam called his mom, and she picked us up in a silvery Suburban. We both climbed into the messy backseat, which Sam explained was because his sisters could not make a car trip without Doritos or French Fries. I paid attention to how long we were in the car for. There is no way that I can walk back home.
When we reached a white and tan house, we pulled into the garage and stepped out of the car. Sam ran in before me, grabbed two red Gatorades and granola bars and told me to follow him. I did.
He was leading me to his room, probably to explain this idea to me. When we got in there, he sat down on his bed, and features for me to sit in the desk chair.
"Okay, so, obviously I'm gay. You know that, right?" he asks. I nod my head in agreement. "So, I am constantly being tormented by those gorillas you saw earlier, David and Harry. I was thinking that if you and me looked like we were dating, I wouldn't get all that garbage from them."
I was impressed. He was cute and smart. Even if the relationship was fake, at least I get to pretend I am his girlfriend. It might increase my popularity, having a boyfriend and all. I know it's bad to use other people, but, in a way, he's using me, too.
"Yeah, I'll do it." I said. "Um, what do they actually do to you? Besides the teasing."
"I don't... I'm not... really...um...comfortable..."
"Oh!" I said loudly, feeling stupid. Why would someone want to talk about this sort of thing? Oh my gosh, why am I so stupid? "Oh, um, you don't have to tell me."
"Anyway, for the plan to work, I need your number, so we can exchange texts about how much we love each other." I gave it to him, and we started brainstorming the cheesiest nicknames, texts, and inside jokes. It was kind of silly, but the whole time, I was pretending this was all real.
