It only took Percy a moment to find the son of Hades sitting on the steps to the upper deck. He walked over to him and crouched next to him. “It’s time for bed…”

“Don’t care.” Nico replied.

“I’m not joking. It’s not safe to be out here alone at night, go to bed.”

“I don’t want to…”

Sighing, Percy rolled his eyes. “Well you don’t have to go to sleep, but you do have to come to my room. You can’t stay out here.”

“I’m strong enough to defend myself, Jackson.” he hissed, shooting the captain a glare.

Percy shook his head. “I never said you weren’t, but that’s not what I’m worried about. Leo installed a security system that comes on at night. It doesn’t turn off and it’ll barbecue anyone who it identifies as an intruder… Which is basically anyone on the deck.”

Nico groaned. “Fine.”

As they walked back towards his room, Percy noticed he younger boy sulking beside him. He rolled his eyes. “Oh, would you quit your sulking?!”

Scowling, he simply replied with an elbow to Percy’s side.

The captain clenched his fists at this. “Why do you hate me, huh?! What did I do?!”

“You were rude and annoying.”

“How? I gave you a bed to sleep in, we bought you new clothes, we got you dinner, why are you the only one that hates me?!”

“I just do.”

“Why?!” he demanded, stepping directly in front of the younger boy and getting in his face.  “Everyone else seems to at least not despise me! What’s your deal?”

“Back. Off.” Nico replied, his expression not changing in the slightest.

“Not until you tell me what your problem is.”

Shoving him off, Nico took a step back. “Would you just drop it?”

“Oh, it’s a fight you want is it?” Percy muttered, taking a step forward and shoving the boy back.

Nico stumbled backward, but quickly regained his footing. “No thanks.” He simply pushed past Percy, walking toward his room.

“And just where do you think you’re going?!” Percy growled.

“To bed.” Nico replied, opening the door and walking inside, climbing the ladder towards the top bunk.

Now infuriated, Percy grabbed his shirt and yanked him down, pulling him in close. “This is my ship, and I will be treated. With. Respect!” he spat.

“Let go, you idiot.” Nico murmured, trying to release Percy’s grip from his shirt.

“I can make you walk the plank, lad. You know that?” he hissed, his voice slowly escalating into a thicker pirate accent as his anger increased.

Nico felt his heart pounding in his chest. He was terrified, but he couldn’t allow it to show, he simply replaced his fear with a glare of disgust. “You wouldn’t.”

“Try me, lad.”

His senses kicked into overdrive. Nico summoned all of his strength and kicked the older boy hard in the shin, causing Percy to release him. “Leave me alone!” As Percy stepped toward him, he threw a punch to his gut. “Leave me alone, you hear?! I will fill your dreams with horrors and in the center of it all, I will be your worst nightmare.”
