Gavin slowly followed behind Ryan, while he lead him through the senior's hallway.
"So, it's this door right here," Ryan said, extending an arm toward the door, which had the number 529 on it. Ryan, being the gentleman he is, held the door for Gavin.
Gavin stumbled into the advanced math room, books tucked close to his body. Seniors and juniors were still filtering in and out of the class room, but Ryan was the only junior he had his attention on.
Ryan was easily talking to a senior, chatting and laughing every so often. It went on like that for a few more minutes, until the teachers voice startled him out of his staring.
"Hello! Can I introduce our newest addition, Gavin Free! He is also the first freshman at our school to be in calculus," the teacher gestured in his direction, causing Gavin to blush from the sudden attention.
Ryan's eye were locked on him as he admired the flush staining his cheeks.
Gavin gave a sheepish smile, eyes glued to his desk. He was intent on making himself invisible.
"So, why don't you answer this problem, Mr. Free. In the function of f(x)=(x+3)(x-2) cubed, what are the intervals of increase and decrease of f?" Questioned the teacher.
All the students were staring at him as he looked up and answered, "-infinity, -7/3 for the decrease and -7/3, +infinity for the increase," he answered with a shaky voice.
"That is.. correct. Good job Mr. Free," the teacher announced, sounding quite amazed.
The others in the classroom seemed to be confused how a freshman did that in his head.
The class went back to normal, except for a certain Ryan Haywood staring at Gavin.
~~~~~time skip brought to you by me being garbage~~~~~
After the bell rang, all the high schoolers rushed out of the classroom as fast as they could.
"Hey, you were really quick with that question," Ryan said, trying to make small talk.
"Oh! Uh, thank you!" Gavin's cheeks tinted red.
"So, there's this lame party this weekend, but I was thinking it would be less lame if you were there?" Ryan asked, praying he would say yes.
"R-really? I would love to!" Gavin was so happy.
"I'll text you the details," he said, causing them to exchange phone numbers.
"See ya later," says Ryan with a wink, causing Gavin to practically melt.
