It was an unusually hot day for being the first of September in London. People were running across the train station wearing only thin clothes and sunglasses to not be dazzled by the late summer sun and the ice cream shops seemed to be more than happy as the queues of children, thirsting for a cooling ice cream seemed to be endless.
Vega Black and her mother were walking through Kings Cross Station. Pearls of sweat were forming on Vega's forehead as the sun shone on her black clothes through the glass windows. Her mother tensed up and Vega could feel her mothers grip around her arm tightened as she pushed them through another crowd of muggles. Vega's mother, Cassiopeia, we're just like the rest of Vega's family, and didn't seem to like muggles. Vega had never quite understood why, neither had she ever dared to ask her mother about it, so she simply assumed that the reason were that they were different from them. And no one seemed to like 'different'.
"Why do they feel the need to force us all to go this absolutely horrible muggle place to board train?" Vega's mother spoke loudly. Her black hair was put in her usual tight bun and her clothes, as dark as the night, hung loosely around her body. "They're saying the Headmaster is so sharp, isn't he clever enough to find a better way"
It took a few more minutes more of pushing and dragging for them, until they finally stopped in front of a brick wall in between the platforms 9 and 10.
"So, here we are, platform 9 3/4" Cassiopeia told her daughter. Vega looked up at her mother, who stood with her arms crossed and waited impatiently.
"Hurry up. I don't want to stand here all day." she said with a harsh voice.
"H-how to you do it?" Vega asked her. She must've forgotten that Vega had never gone to Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry before. They didn't really see each other that often since her mother often was away on "business" and "errands" as she liked to call it, leaving Vega at her aunt's house. She lived in a big manor, filled with countless of rooms an endless corridors, but with significantly less things to do. Luckily her aunt Narcissa had a son, her cousin, Draco Malfoy. They always came up with something fun to do while their parents has visitors.
Draco was the only kid Vega had ever met in her age and even if she really appreciated him, she couldn't wait to meet new kids and make new friends.
"Just walk through the wall" her mother said and pointed her finger at the brick wall. Vega looked up at her with a hesitant look.
"Fine, I'll go with you. Here" she said and reached for Vega's hand. Vega grabbed her trunk that she dragged behind her before the both of them started running. Vega didn't dare to look as the wall came closer. Suddenly, the sound of stressed business people and electronics disappeared, and when Vega finally dared to open her eyes again, she was met by a whole other world. All of a sudden, she was surrounded by families, owls, cats, and magic.
The red colored Hogwarts Express stood on the rails, waiting for the clock to hit 11. The young girl stood in awe.
Before Vega had the chance to run away into the crowd of children who were all just like her, her mother dragged her to the corner of the platform. She crouched down, making her the same height as Vega's 11 year old body, before pulling Vega into a hug. Vega froze. She'd never been hugged by her mother before.
"This is where I leave you, Vega. Make me proud, okay. Remember, Slytherin is my old home, the same with your aunt Narcissa, and it's going to be Dracos' as well... It was your dads," Vega looked at her mother, shocked when she brought her father up. It wasn't something she did often. Vega didn't know much about her father, he had died when Vega was just a baby. All she'd ever told me was that he was a great man, who fought for what was right, and Vega couldn't help but to wanting to be like him.
