The edge of the cliff

The deep end
That's where you wish to be
The end of your journey
It's been a long and rocky road
Where does it meet an end you might ask
It feels like forever since you started traveling
A never-ending road
You feel tired
Weak even
And suddenly there it is
The end of the road
The edge of a cliff
You see the ocean
Magnificent view
You stand in awe watching the waves dancing with the wind
You hear them crushing on the rocks meeting them in a fatal touch
You hear them calling you
A melody in your ears
Seaguls surround the sky circling and cawing
The sun is diving into the abyss
You see it melting into pink and orange hues of foam
That's how you want to end the journey
To melt into the ocean
To become the ocean
You take a step
You're at the end of the road now
A pitted one indeed
You start composing yourself for what is yet to come
You don't say fairwell
No you don't have a reason
Your journey was hard and unpleasant
You hear the abyss welcoming you
You see the sun setting an example
The seaguls are singing a symphony of reception
And you're about to take a step
But then something happens
You feel a touch
A strong one on your shoulders
Then someone grabs you
Impossible to move
You turn around
A ghostly pallor spreads over your face
You recognise the person holding you
It reminds you strongly of someone you thought long lost
It reminds you of yourself
Your past self
Yourself at the begining of the journey
Young,carefree, full of hope
But most importantly ignorant
Ignorant of hardships yet to come
He stares deeply into your eyes
You freeze in your position
He says you have to take him with you
Together you started the venture together you meet the end
You stare back flabbergasted
You can't do this to a child
For a childish face is that you set your eyes upon
You begin to rethink
Maybe it's not the time yet
Maybe this cliff was just a distraction
Maybe the ocean is trying to trick you
Maybe the seaguls are trying to warn you
You don't take the step
You take the child by his hand and you start walking the other way
Your journey is yet to end
But you have to gather your strength
For the child
For yourself
Forever
