‘You looked happy, Dennise.’
‘I am.’
‘And it looks like, she is the reason.’ they both took a quick glance at the person who spends her waiting time walking in the beach shore.
Dennise smiled sweetly at her mom, who did the same thing back at her, as they both witnessed the nearing sunset. The happy vibe and how things were unfolding slowly.. It feels like the old times.
‘Yes! She’s the reason.’ Dennise enthusiastically admitted. ‘Hmm.. I missed this.. the sunset.. you, me.. how we just spend the afternoon, gazing at the clouds.. talking about anything under the sun..’
‘You left my dear..’
‘And I’m sorry for that mom..’ she was apologetic. Water starts to form in her eyes as she moves closer to her mom, holding one of her hands.
‘It’s all in the past now.. and look at you.. you’re stronger, braver, happier..’ her mother trying to calm her unintended fall of tears. ‘And I like her for you.’
‘You do?’
‘Of course. Both of us, me and your father, we do like Alyssa.. Aly seems to be the type of person who would take a bullet for you. How she looks at you.. it was different. You two were like magnets.. one moves, the other moves as well.’ she noticed, now her mother is smiling. She wrapped her in her hands, keeping her warm with a motherly hug.
‘Even though Aly was the reason for your sudden call for independence, we knew then you were at the right hands.. We love her.. and we love you.’
* * *
It was unbelievably a quiet drive back home, neither one of them is taking the initiation of breaking the silence. Aly was taking quick glances of her, while Dennise was enjoying the view outside.
‘Uhmmm..’ Aly clears her throat. She succeeded and got her attention.
‘Are you tired?’ Dennise asked.
‘No.. but you are too quiet, anything wrong?’
‘Nothing. I just missed mom.’ there was pure truth to Dennise statement.
Once again, another bundle of silence blankets the drive back home. But it was Aly, who broke the silence for the second time around.
‘Any regrets?’
‘Hmmm..’ Dennise heard her and heave a sigh after. ‘No regrets.’
‘Ok..’ and it was again followed by another significant silence between the two.
‘Ly..’ she called out her attention, well it’s been with hers the whole time. This time her tone is more of a sweet, calm one. Aly faced her, gave a meek smile and got back her look on the road.
‘Ly..’ she called her out once again but this time Dennise held one of Aly’s hand. ‘You know, 5 years ago.. if you’ll ask me that same question.. I would have said yes. I was so afraid.’
Aly squeezed Dennise hand tight and pull it close to her, placing it in her heart before planting a kiss on that hand that’s been intertwined with hers. ‘I know..’
‘You made a rebel out of me..’ Dennise added while chuckling. Aly just smiled.
‘But we figured it out.. we never stopped from learning.. and it was actually you who kept me together.. And we had our fights.. that fight..’ Dennise said, now she looks more of reminiscing.
‘It was the best fight ever..’ Aly quipped, grinning at her.
‘I thought you’ll say goodbye.. I was preparing myself to sob more..’ Dennise confessed. ‘But you took me by surprise.. and you said you’ll never leave me alone.’
‘And the best part follows.. we kissed, you never wanna let go of my lips..’ Aly grinned once more then added ‘…but it was one of the best kiss after a fight.. and of course, a lot more that happened after.. how can i forget?!’ flashing her signature smirk.
Dennise giggled while hitting Aly softly in her arms.
‘I loved you for a reason, and that’s a fact.’ Aly uttered. ‘You and your crazy antics make my day.’ she chuckled. ‘And everytime I look at you.. it’s always like the first time.’
Dennise gushed and mumble and blush and words start to stumble but it’s always been Aly who held her together.. and reminds her that ‘she should always believe on what they have.. they’ll make it.. they have it now’. Dennise paused for a second and leaned to give Aly a peck on the cheek. She speaks, her words were articulated enough to let Aly know that..
“Ly, you are the best thing that’s ever been mine.. :)”
