CHAPTER 15 | IN DENIAL AND THE HIDDEN TRUTH
"Lies to the ears are just words, but lies to the heart is like stabbing an Angel who would do anything to bring you back into Heaven."

"You're fucking lying! Zillah isn't dead!" Lycus's voice shatters the stillness, raw and jagged, filled with disbelief and agony. His body trembles, his fists clenched so tightly his knuckles are white, as if holding onto the last thread of sanity. His eyes are wide with desperation, tears threatening to break free but not yet falling. His heart beats in his chest like a drum of war, too fast, too loud, his pulse racing as if he's trying to outrun the crushing truth.

The words hang in the air, defiant, but they offer no solace, no escape. His voice cracks, shattering with the weight of everything he doesn't want to accept. The world around him feels like it's crumbling, and his body reacts as though the earth itself is shaking beneath his feet.

Hoseok stands in front of him, his face stoic but weary, his eyes holding a grief so deep it's almost suffocating. "Lycus..." he begins, his voice quiet but heavy, laden with sorrow, "Zillah is gone. Axel killed him. He's gone."

The words are like a dagger, cutting deep into Lycus's chest, and for a moment, everything goes still. His world falters, tilts, and then crumbles. His chest aches, tight with the unbearable weight of loss, his breath coming in uneven gasps as if he's struggling to breathe through the storm of grief consuming him.

"Zillah's dead!" The words don't make sense. They can't. Not Zillah—the one who had always been there, the one who had kept them together, the pillar of their pack. The wolf who carried hope in his heart, a light in the darkest of times. He couldn't be gone. It wasn't possible. Lycus's heart wrenches, the pain so sharp it feels like it could tear him apart. His hands shake violently, his entire body trembling as the rage and sorrow fight for control.

Namjoon and Taehyung step forward, their hands on Lycus's shoulders, holding him back with the strength of men who have seen far too much pain, but even their grip can't hold back the fury and devastation surging through Lycus's veins. He struggles against them, his muscles taut, his whole being screaming to lash out, to destroy, to make this pain go away. To avenge Zillah.

His voice rises in a howl of agony. "I'll kill him! I'll kill Axel for this! I'll—"

But Hoseok interrupts him, his voice a soft, sorrowful command, his eyes filled with an emotion that only those who have lost can understand. "Lycus, please." His tone is firm but laced with grief, "We can't. We barely made it out of Magnus alive. We were lucky. We can't charge in recklessly, not like this. Zillah wouldn't want us to throw our lives away for revenge." The words are meant to ground him, but they fall heavy, like stones dropped into an already flooded river.

But Lycus is drowning in his own grief. His face twists in a desperate, guttural snarl. "I don't care what he would want!" he roars, his voice raw with heartbreak. "He's dead, Hoseok! He's gone, and we just stand here like nothing happened? Like we let him die for nothing?!" The words come out in jagged gasps, each one a knife twisting deeper into his own soul.

He's not thinking anymore. The pain is too much. The anger is too loud. All he can see is the image of Zillah's lifeless eyes, his last breath stolen by the one man they tried to avoid. All he can feel is the gaping void that Zillah's death has left inside him, an emptiness that no amount of revenge could ever fill.

Namjoon and Taehyung, still holding him back, exchange a glance, but they say nothing. They understand. They feel it too. The anger, the grief. But they also understand the danger of letting rage take over completely.
