I sit beside a shaking Carter his body not daring to make contact with mine.

"You know you can do anything for now since I can't kill you here."

"Angie just believe me just this once we can even go and investigate your house."

"Carter there is a reason why only detectives and policemen can go there."

"I know but if it means to clear my name I will do anything."

Carter kept pestering me until I gave up and complied. If he kept being noisy his parents were gonna know what we were talking about. Thankfully that was not the case as Carter's mother butts in handing us some chips. I smiled and pretended nothing happened.

So this where we have ended up now at my old house at three in the morning. Flashbacks were attacking me all at once, the events still shook me to the core, though I already suspected Carter I still needed a solid proof that it was either him or someone else.  And I feel stupid right now for coming back to this place with him. I look to Carter's way of seeing him rubbing his sweaty palms.

He's nervous...

"Carter, why do you look so nervous? Something you wanna tell me?" I give a smug look trying to prove my point. Carter was about to open his mouth when the one who was guarding the front porch goes to the roof to smoke with the others who were guarding the old house. This was it. Carter and I rush inside to go upstairs. We search there for long hours but there was nothing we can find. No clues in the bathrooms, kitchen, front porch, and basement. I was seconds away from giving up but there are still two locations left.

The next location we plan to investigate was my parent's room but still, there was nothing. The last stop was where I spotted Carter. The backyard. We search for a good few minutes until a hard thing comes in contact with my feet I look down to see a sledgehammer covered in dry blood. I pick it up shaking. How many night patrols does it take for them to notice this laying on the ground? It's obvious that we will eventually need to turn this weapon down to the hands of the authorities. But for once I felt skeptical. I throw the sledgehammer right at Carter's feet making Carter jump out by surprise.

"You can see this right?"

"A-Angie w-we need to turn this to the authorities..." Carter's face changes as he shakingly bends down to reach for the ax on the ground.

"Wait, Carter."

"What?"

"I think we can't trust the authorities right now."

"What do you mean? Don't you want this to be over?" Carter tries to persuade me but I was rather displeased. I saw the guards coming down from the rooftop done with their business. Instead of saying anything I grab the ax away from his hands and walk back to the woods path.
