Chapter 5

I wore my blue top and jeans while Haymon wore his white shirt and black pants that we bought from the mall that day. I just hoped that Angeline won't steal him. Even though we were just pretending to be together, I treasured every moment and since it was his first day to high school, I let him drive. We went over to Kelly and Serene's house to pick them up.

We arrived school and got out. A few people saw Haymon and ran over to him. A few even shouted Haymon's name that resulted many more people came running.

"He is not Haymon!" I shouted over the crowd and suddenly everyone was staring at me as if I had gone crazy or something.

"Listen, he is not Haymon." I told them and Haymon came over. We walked to our classes. Luckily, Haymon had all classes same with me so I could help him. First class was History. I hated History. It was the most boring subject in the history of history. And it was also because Angeline had the same class too.

She walked into the classroom and saw Haymon. She stopped there and continued but at our direction. Once she got in front of Haymon, she began to flirt. Eew.

"Hello, Hayden. Remind me where we met again?" she asked him with her innocent face.

I nudged him and he answered, "I don't remember you." Angeline flinched and flipped her hair as she made her way to the back to the class and to her seat. Mr. Joseph came in and introduced everyone to Haymon.

"Everyone, we have a new student. His name is Hayden Jackson. He is Haymon's cousin from Amulet Nuke! Isn't that exciting? But not as exciting as the magical history we are going to learn today!" everyone groaned except for Haymon. He was listening to the whole lesson. Which was new since he was a star and everything.

Then I remembered that I had to visit my aunty at her village this weekend. But who's going to take care of Haymon? Maybe he could follow me.

After a few lessons, recess came and we went to our usual table. Haymon came to sit with us.

"So how does it feel like in high school?" I asked him.

"It's fun. And irritating." Irritating?

"Why?"

"Because Angeline kept flirting with me and it is disturbing." You and me the same, Haymon. I was beggining to have second thoughts of not beating up Angeline but since Haymon did not like her, I guessed it was safe.

It was June that time and I knew that the annual July dance was near. Every year I skipped 'cause I knew every year who was the spring fling queen. Angeline. And Brad was always the King. It was the same thing every year and everyone went with their dates and stuff. It was like a routine or something. I hated it.

Speaking of the devil, Angeline came over and bragged again. "Hello Hayden. Everyone is voting for you to be king for the July dance. Isn't that interesting?" she asked Haymon. Haymon once told me that he knew all about the high school stuff and he watched movies about them and he knew how it worked.

"No. It's not. It's not because the girl that I like isn't queen." I wondered who the girl was. She must be really lucky to have Haymon's heart. Angeline flinched and gave me a dirty look. Oh, she thought that he was talking about me! Since I was pretending to be his girl and all. "Angeline, get lost. His mine." I told her making sure the whole cafeteria heard what I said.

Haymon stared at me with wide eyes surprised maybe. I turned back to Angeline and she was gritting her teeth. Maybe that would teach her a lesson. "Yeah Angeline. Get lost. Don't bother...Amelia." He said my name almost like a whisper I can't really hear what he said.

Angeline stormed off and we laughed. Kelly and Serene exchanged glances and said, "Can we borrow Amelia for a while?" Haymon nodded and they pulled me to a more quiet corner. "You like him." they whispered.

"No way!" yes way. So much that I won't want Angeline getting near anywhere of him.

"Yes, you do! We know you like forever, Amelia. And it's pretty obvious he likes you too." Kelly whispered. I wished what she said was true. True enough to be reality.

"Okay, I like him. But I don't know if he likes me. I am probably looking so stupid now. I am not even pretty!"

"Then we'll make you to be. But you have to cooperate with us." Serene whispered.

"Okay. Whatever it takes we will help you." Kelly whispered and the bell rang. I grabbed my books and Haymon and I went to our next class, Math. One of Angeline's social princesses, Derlene was there! She might steal him!

I let go of my ponytail and it flowed down until my waist. Yes, my hair was long and I wanted it to stay that way. For the first time, Haymon saw me with my hair down. His eyes went big as he stared. Bingo!

It was probably impossible for him to never seen me with my hair down but it was true. He never did. Until then. Even when i was sleeping I tied my hair too.

"Whoa. You looked..." he stammered.

"Pretty? Beautiful? Ugly? Weird?" I gave him suggestions to describe me.

"Pretty."
