"I feel a little like the moon who took possession of you for a moment and then returned your soul to you. You should not love me. One ought not to love the moon. If you come too near me, I will hurt you."
~Anaïs Nin, Delta of Venus
Tears threatened to spill down Amina's face, the angry magic within her stirred. "Where is your mate, Brandon?"
Brandon did not slow down in his approach.
"I'm done being this thing that you are only half way interested in. I'm done with y- "
Brandon was at once nose to nose with her, his breath warm against her lips, "Amina, I cannot contain my wolf this close to the full moon. Please be careful in what you say to me right now." His nose nuzzled into her neck, taking a deep inhale of her scent.
Prey or witch?
She missed him, she missed the magic between them. But she was tired of having to fill in the blanks in the conversations he wouldn't have. "Brandon, don't use your wolf as an excuse for your inability to communicate. You say you miss me? It looks like you missed the pretty blonde." She gently pushed him. His wolf, Orion, didn't like that - Brandon was losing the tether between the two beasts.
"She's nothing" his voice was rough and doubled with Orion speaking simultaneously with Brandon.
"Is that what you tell people about me?"
"Amina, you know exactly what you are to me. You know exactly what we are. Why are you running away from me?" Brandon's wolf began peeking through, the hair on his knuckles sprouting just lightly. Amina's witch sensed the magic in the vehicle and her hair swayed and pulsed at the energy.
"Running away from you? That's rich. Why didn't you run with me? How could you choose them over us, over what could have been our family?" Tears pricked her eyes.
"I wanted our family. I wanted you. I want us and what the future has for us." Brandon responded, his voice pleading.
"You mean HAD for us?! You can't stop choosing everyone and everything else. When are you going to choose me? "
"I chose you, I will always choose you. It wasn't just your loss. It was our loss. If I could have done something to prevent it from happening, from making you feel that pain, I would have. And then you just left. You never gave me a chance - and I never told a soul."
"430 days ago, we found out we were pregnant. 30 days later we lost that child and you think I wanted to stay in that place? You thought Mama needed you more than I did?! You made a choice and so did I. So go find your mate and try again with her." Amina's eyes were deep violet and swollen with tears that pooled in the cavity at the base of her neck. Brandon's wolf howled in the car at Amina's pain, his own face wet with emotion.
