We stayed on the island for a few months, I couldn't remember how long, and we decided to go back to our little town. We called Kegley and told him all about it and he said that Mary, David, and John missed us. He paid for our tickets and we went home. When we were at the island Max and I found out we had more than just fire or water powers, Max could run fast and far and had a high pain tolerance (we found that out when she ran into a door and sprained her ankle and kept walking like it was nothing), and I could fly and be absorbed in water completely (found that one out when I got sad because Max sprained her ankle and kept walking). We finally landed at the airport two hours from our home town, but Kegley was there to pick us up and drive us home. He made sure that our house stayed there and nothing happened to it. I was thankfully able to sit in the front seat, so I laid my head on the window and stared out of it until we pulled down our street. My head perked up when the car stopped and was off, I immediately got out of the car and ran towards it. I kept my extra key in the potted plant, under dirt, so no one could find it. I dug through the plant and eventually found it.
"What was she doing?" Kegley asked Patrick
"That's where our spare key was, she hid it far into the dirt so no one could steal it." Patrick explained. He grabbed the rest of the suitcases and walked up to the stairs of the house while Kegley was still standing there. He closed the trunk and locked the car before coming inside.
"Pat! The house hasn't changed! My clothes are still here and so are Maxs' and yours." I ran down the stairs with an old hoodie and sweatpants on. Max laughed at my enthusiasm, but she doesn't know the story of the hoodie.
"That's my hoodie." Patrick said as he pointed towards the article of clothing.
"Um, no, it's not."
"Yes it is. Give it back."
"No."
"Fine, keep it. I don't care." I looked around the house and it looked like someone went shopping before we got there. There was sugar cereal, soda, milk, and pretty much anything for people who were stuck being nineteen years old. I made myself a bowl of cereal before Kegley called us into the living room for a, or what Pat called it, 'Family Meeting'. I walked in and sat on my chair criss-cross, leaning in to show I was listening.
"We have suspicion that the alien attack eight months back, wasn't the last."
"I just got back."
"Shut up. We're the Defenders of Home. Now listen." I say sternly with cereal in my mouth.
"Those were scouts, the ones you fought, and the big one. The big one was just a distraction for the town people, but since you guys were there, it didn't work out how they wanted." He placed pictures he took from the attacks.
"Do we have any information on their weaknesses?" Patrick finally spoke up from his seat on the couch. He was holding some of the pictures in his hand. Doctor Kegley nodded.
"We do. The slime ones are defeated when they came in contact with anything to do with fire. So Max and Patrick, you guys are the ones to fight these ones. Now, Carrie, don't get too sad. The ones that are coming to attack are immune to fire, so their weaknesses are water and cold temperatures. You can withstand any cold temperatures as well. Since you are made out of water you can manipulate it so you can turn into ice." I perked up at this.
"What! Carrie, you're lucky!" I whip my head to look towards Max and she starts looking around in a 'who said that' fashion.
"You and Patrick, because he can withstand anything, need to take the threats to the area on your maps. I'll send it to you once we get everything situated. Until then, we need to get your suits ready, they need to be able to withstand the heat or cold." Frank got up and went up the stairs. The three of us looked around, milk was dripping from my mouth because I was laughing so hard.
