Not What it Seems

It was a bright and sunny day in the Mushroom Kingdom. The wind blew through the meadow as children were enjoying the day with a game of soccer. They laughed as they ran after the ball. The kingdom was at peace because Bowser was on vacation with his 8 children for the next two months. It was perfect timing. The Mushroom Kingdom Talent Show was coming up in just three weeks. Luigi sat under a tree with his girlfriend Daisy, making plans for the show. They were going to sing a duet. They were so excited that they didn't notice the older Mario Brother sneek up. He put his hand on Luigi's shoulder causing him to jump.

"Sorry bro. I didn't mean to startle you." Mario apologized.

"That's okay Mario." Luigi smiled. "We were j-just going over our plans for the t-talent show."

"Wait...you're going to preform?" Mario teased. "That's great!"

"Yup! We're going to do a duet." Daisy chimed in. "And we're going to do great together." Daisy proceeded to grab her boyfriend's hand. Mario smiled. He was glad that Luigi had a girlfriend like Daisy. She was always there to help bring him up.

"That's good to hear." He replied.

It was the day of the talent show, and Daisy was nowhere to be found. Luigi was backstage when he started panicking. 'Oh nononono!' 'What do I do now?' He looked from behind the curtains to see three toads in the judges seats and a crowd getting ready for the show. Just as he was on the verge of a panic attack, Mario and Peach walked in. They came to wish him luck only to find him freaking out.

"Daisy's not here! What do I do? I need her to preform! It's a duet! I'm not going out there alone!"

"Hey, bro try calm down." Mario soothed. "I'm sure she's on her-" He was interrupted by Daisy running in.

"Daisy! There you are!" Luigi exclaimed. " We gotta get ready to- Hey are you alright?" He questioned her due to the small tears in her eyes. She went into her pocket and pulled out a folded piece of paper, handing it to her boyfriend. Luigi accepted it and continued to open it. It was a note that read, 'I've lost my voice from over practicing at home. I'm sorry. I just was excited and wanted to make you happy.' Afterwards, he looked her in the eyes.

"There's nothing to apologize for." He responded. He then pulled her into a hug.

"So, what are you going to do now?" Mario asked his brother as he departed from Daisy.

"I guess I'll just drop out." Luigi answered. Mario and Peach gave him a sad look.

"But you worked so hard." Mario reminded.

"There will be other times." Luigi said. He was about to leave to tell the judges he was dropping out when Peach grabbed his hand. What she said next shocked him.

"Wait! I'll sing Daisy's part!" Peach suggested.

"Yeah that's a great idea!" Mario shouted. "It could work!"

"Um I don't know. I was hoping to do it with Daisy. Plus I really don't wanna trouble you." Luigi confessed.

"It's not trouble at all." Peach said while waved her hand in dismissal. "I mean if Daisy is okay with it." She looked over at Daisy. Daisy nodded her head in agreement, give Luigi a smile. He smiled back at the flower princess.

"Okay, let's do it!" He agreed.

The talent show had some really good acts that included juggling, comedy, dancing ect. Luigi and Peach were on last. As the act before bowed, Luigi and Peach started getting ready. The announcer was starting to introduce the duo we Luigi started shaking. Peach noticed this and took her friend by the hand.
