Some times suffering is just suffering. It doesn't build character. It doesn't make you stronger. It only hurts.

I let a few tears slip out as they zip-tied my hands together behind my back, lifted me to my feet and walked me towards the cars that I would have to return in. As we stopped in front of the pack I saw the old witch-doctor who had been kind to me. I used my ring to cut at the zip-ties and I ran to the woman. She wrapped me in her arms and it was my first hug in years.
I didn't know why I did it but I just needed someone for once. For almost a year she had seen me but kept her distance, never once told on me, and she was there for me when I got hurt.
"Thank you. They are going to take me away now." I whispered in her ear.
"It was my pleasure, my dear. I am sorry I cannot stop them." Replied the woman and I could hear them coming.
I squeezed her tight as it was probably the last time I would ever see her. I felt them grab at my shoulder and I let them yank me off her. They pulled me back to where Eli stood and I was next to him again. By his side, I was held as he thanked the Alpha and pulled us into the car. Sat next to him in the car I could feel him watching as I cried. I was silent but the tears still flowed.
"How did she win you over?" Asked Eli while the man driving the car looked straight ahead pretending not to notice or hear a thing.
"She wasn't trying to win me over. She just was there for me. That was the first time we ever spoke. She never tried to make me care like you do. You will never let a natural bond to form as the entire basis of our relationship. You brought me Eli."
"How did you find out about that?"
"I'm not an idiot. When a hunter takes them around the pack the mates buy them off the hunters or the hunters keep them. It costs a lot to kidnapped and carry around a lot of people and you have to get that reimbursed somehow. So how much did you pay for me?" I asked and Eli looked extremely uncomfortable. My tears had dried and now I was just curious.
"Enough food for a month and a bottle of whiskey. But it was just so they wouldn't keep you. I didn't do it so I could own you." Said Eli but I knew better. He might not have wanted me as a slave but he payed them so he would have me there. It was for him far more than it ever was for me. "I wish you had never left."
I curled up in my seat with my head resting against the bumping window in hopes of sleeping through the drive. I didn't and instead of letting my mind drift off into the oblivion I felt shivers up my back as Eli watched me. I had very little clue as to what he was thinking. Eventually, though I did fall asleep.
I woke up later that day. Eli must have carried me into my new bedroom. I lay around reading until I could hear screams throughout the house. Gas began to pour into my room and I shoved through the house grabbing at walls stumbling in hopes of finding my way. Eventually I burst into the library and found the row I was looking for. I pulled at the books until a gas mask was easily visible. Once it was secured to my face I could take a real breath of air before returning to the issue.
From what I could see people were unconscious on the ground. There was no higher concentration of gas around the air vents meaning it can't have come through there. Unfortunately the windows in the house were bulletproof so smashing through those would never work. I did however open every window I saw as wide as I could in hopes of getting fresh air through the house.
I ran through the house turning on air conditioning, opening windows, opening doors, until I saw a gas canister on the ground. It was an inefficient way of getting the gas through but it seemed to still be spilling out gas. I through it out of the window and ran through each room searching on my hands and knees in hopes of finding a canister. After most were gone I stumbled outside and ran to the nearest pack member.
"There is gas everywhere. They are still in there get your pack to go and collect the wolves." I said before the gas finally got to me and I collapsed to the ground. A woman lifted me up and began to carry me while I barked out orders to the people around me. I may not have particularly cared for the pack but I would hardly let them get hurt. As we arrived at the pack hospital the put some drugs in my arm and I passed out on a hospital bed.
"Someone get the Alpha she is waking up." Shouted someone as I sat up in my bed. I was surrounded by doctors and nurses which seemed excessive in my mind but that was Eli for you.
"Are you feeling okay?" Asked Eli and I nodded while I looked him up and down to see if there were any permanent injuries to him. "Thank you. You saved many pack members including myself. We owe you a lot and we truly appreciate it. We looked at your results and the gas didn't leave any mark on you." Eli and I chatted about the gas for a bit before he took me back to my room where I got a really good night of sleep.
