Chapter 2

Soon enough, it was time for the ceremony. It happens every week on Saturday, at the middle of the island to socialize with others and catch up. It's how everyone knows each other. It's how everyone stays sane. Even the antisocial people come to these little ceremonies every once in a while. Not saying they have to the most fun and they mainly only come for the food.
Aouli then runs up to me giving me a bear hug, after the shock wore off, I lifted my forearm to half-heartedly hug back. Aouli has always annoyed me ever since we were two. The reason he likes me so much is because we were born a minute apart. The main sentence he says to me is "your my twin from another mother". As you can tell it got old really quick. My father wants us to marry but I can tell Aouli sees me as a sister (or twin) than he sees me as a wife. My father only pushes that I marry him because we grew up together and we "already act like a married couple". That's complete nonsense to me but I can't control my father's thought process.
Almost as if on queue, "Hey, twin from another mother!"
"Hey Aouli. How are you?"
"Good. A coconut fell on me earlier but I wasn't seriously hurt"
"Did you get checked out my the medic?"
"No but I continued working with a headache"
"What is the name of the island we are on?"
"O'ahu. Why? "
"We need to get you to the medic now."
I grabbed his arm and dragged him through the social event. People calling out to us asking where are we going to such a hurry. The faces started to morph into strange creatures. Where is this damn medic! I can't find him. What the hell happened to everyone's face? What happened? What is going on? What can I do to help Aouli?  It's as though their faces were made out of clay and had been smashed and twisted and mutilated. I need to find the medic. Where did he go? Everyone has to be here! Where is he?
The faces started to melt like ice cream underneath the beaming sun. I started to run. Get away from me. Don't look at me. Like a breath of fresh air, after drowning so long, I break through the walls of people. I fell to my knees, exhausted, holding my head almost as thought it'll make the world would just go away.
Someone gently taps my back "Are you ok?"
I glace up to see Iolana standing over me. I quickly stood trying to pretend that none of that happened and brushed the grass off of my knees. Behind Iolana I see tall figures turned away from me. "Yeah. What is everyone looking at?"
"You didn't hear? Aouli fainted."
I hurriedly pushed through the figures till I got to the source of the crowd. I seen Aouli laying flat, pale, with a wet towel on his forehead and the medic hovering over him trying to treat him until he raises his 4 fingers. Then 4 people emerged from the circle. It was the nurses. Two of them lifted Aouli and the other two placed a thick fabric gurnee underneath him. Then they switched sides. The gap in the crowd closed as he was dragged away.
