Taking It Slow (BobbleMask)

Chapter 7

*important note: please remember it is canon that Bobble was the first one to splat Emperor in a very long time. Evidence is at the top!

Mask was the only one who stayed in the square, so he decided to hit up The Shoal. While walking to the arcade, he noticed Bobble Hat sitting on the bench near the cafe. She looked unhappy. This actually made Mask want to comfort her, now that he really knows she isn't all happiness and smiles 24/7. He awkwardly sat down next to her quietly. Bobble noticed that he sat next to her, but didn't really bother to look up. Finally, Mask said something, "Um, are youuu, uuuh, okaayyy?" This made Bobble giggle a little, but she still looked at the ground. "Wow, I'm pretty sure you've never comforted someone," she replied to his attempt at consoling her. Mask just squinted at her with anger and embarrassment. Once Bobble noticed this, she quickly apologized, "Sorry, sorry. I guess that was pretty mean of me to say, sorry." Mask just responded with, "Nah, it's fiiinne..." They didn't chat with each other for a while, until Bobble finally said something: "Hey, if you're wondering why I'm sad, it's just because I felt bad for, you know, rudely interrupting your team meeting." Mask was about to say something, but she began to talk again, "I just don't get how being good is being weak? Can you explain that to me?" Mask just stared at her like she was stupid. "Isn't it obviouuusss? Being good to people makes you weak because you won't want to hurt peoplllee. Then you lose every turf war you haaave, just because you don't want to splat annyyoonee.." Bobble looked at him for a while, then suddenly asked, "Mask, am I a good person?" Mask didn't know how to answer. "Um, yeaaahh. Duuuhh," he said, still believing that "good" equals "weak". "Oh boy!" Bobble says excitedly, "Do I have some news for you!" Mask stared in confusion, until she finally said, "I've splatted you before, remember? Oh, and get this: I splatted Emperor, The King!" She sarcastically adds on, "If I'm such a 'good person', how could I have possibly splatted you guys, hmm?" She smiled brightly at Mask. He had never felt more dumb in his life. "So," Bobble continued, "what did we learn today?" Mask reluctantly mumbled, "Good people aren't weeaak..." He felt his face heat up with embarrassment. Proud of the fact that she got Mask to understand that "good" isn't the same as "weak", Bobble smiled wider. Soon, that smile faded slowly when she realized that Mask is probably feeling horrible right now. She hesitates, but eventually reaches out to put her hand on his shoulder. "Hey, I didn't mean to make you feel bad, okay? I just wanted to let you know," Bobble leaned closer to Mask, "that you can be a good person. That you can be good without being weak." Mask's heart began to beat. The phrase "a good person" kept replaying in his mind, and this time he knew she wasn't trying to offend him. He open his arms, hesitant at first, but proceeded to hug Bobble. Her eyes widened when she felt Mask's embrace. He knew he wasn't supposed to like her, but he couldn't help it. Someone really cared about his feelings "Th-thank yooouu. No one has ever told me that..." Mask whispered. Bobble softly smiled, and hugged him back. After a second or two, they let go of each other, then Bobble spoke, "W-well, I'm sure you have other places to be, so I'll just, um, head out I guess." She stood up, said bye, and walked away. As she strolled to "Ye Olde Clothe Shoppe", she thought, "Go Bobble! Now Mask doesn't hate you!"
