Steph glances down at her watch as soon as she sees me step into the bakery, and immediately looks up with a raised brow. "You're right on time, Joshy."

I grin proudly and reach for my apron. I look back at her and notice her surprised look has shifted into what can only be described as dismay.

"You haven't been able to wake up on time almost everyday since you started working here, and now you suddenly come at 7:52?"

Not understanding why she's disappointed about that, I give her a questioning look while she just stares at me.

I hear footsteps behind me and turn around to see Lydia walk in.

"Morning, guys!" she greets excitedly.

"Hey." I smile at Lydia and turn back to Steph to see her walking away already. I'm used to her mood swings, but she never gets mad at me like this for no reason. I decide to let it go for now and get to work. Boss would drop by any moment and it won't end well if he catches me just standing still when there's so much to be done.

I walk to the fridge and pull out all the ingredients we need one by one.

Lydia stands behind me and I hand her some of it so she can take it to the table. After we finish that, I start mixing them in a bowl while she watches me carefully. Steph and I showed her how to make vanilla and blueberry cupcakes yesterday, and she's been taking notes saying she'll practice at home.

Just as I think of asking her about that, Steph walks out of the storage room carrying some flour and a small batter. She sets it down on the table in front of us and walks to the fridge to take the cakes out. We baked four birthday cakes yesterday and the customers will come to get it anytime now. She places them under the glass display one by one before turning to us.

"So, Lydia, how do you like your job so far?" she asks her with a small smile.

I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding, relieved that she's not in a bad mood anymore.

Lydia glances up at her for a split second and proceeds to watch me carefully so she wouldn't miss a thing. "I love it. It's a bit confusing which ingredients and how much should go in first while mixing them because they're so many, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it after a while."

"That's great," Steph says, using a pastry bag to add filling on the cupcakes. "I can tell you'll be of much help."

"I promise I'll try my best." Lydia puts her hand on her chest as if she's swearing an oath, and I try to keep myself from laughing.

Boss walks in at that moment and we look up at him.

"Morning, Uncle Don," Lydia says followed by Steph and I murmuring "Morning."

He nods his head once before walking into the storage room to put away the eggs and flour he's bought.

"How are you doing so far, Liddy?" he asks her as soon as he comes out.
