I can't believe I used to lick myself to get clean... It sounds too dirty looking back. I can't taste sweetness, and I can't see the color red. How unlucky...
Frederick believed that black cats were bad luck. Looking back on the things I can remember, maybe I was.
He also believed that cats couldn't have complex thoughts. He was right too.
In the process of his possession I must have attained more than just his memory. I have his intelligence now.
No, that seems wrong. He wasn't that intelligent.
I'll give him credit though, because at least he could figure out that I was bad luck.
"What if it's karma?" I heard Bjorn's voice above my head. They were walking out of the woods upon being told to leave the scene. I don't think I really liked being held securely against Bjorn's chest, but I was reminded of how Frederick let me sway from side to side and I felt it wasn't so bad.
"Is that why you're holding that flea ridden thing like it's something precious? You're afriad of karma?" Andrew scoffed, although he was also shaken by the idea. "If anyone should be afraid of karma it's Derek."
To the notion, it was almost unnoticable how Derek clenched his jaw, even slowing down in his ever brisk pace. Still, I saw it. They were all on edge, but Derek especially. "You guys don't know what you're talking about."
He had been glancing at me from time to time much too often, so I decided to take it upon myself to watch him carefully. I found that it was the right choice too, because I slowly discovered that he very was afraid of me. He really...
"I guess we'll wait for the police to arrive?" Andrew spoke up, and I realized that we were almost to the clearing. I could see the moonlit sky now, and it was dark grey, but I imagine that Fredrick would have seen it as navy blue.
"They'll be here soon." Derek nodded.
The way up to the pavement was a bit steep, and I remembered how uncomfortable I had felt when Frederick jumped down from there.
As Bjorn took the first step up, he wobbled, and I almost thought he would have to put me down.
He wouldn't have to though, because I decided to push myself out of his embrace while his footing was still unstable. I jumped and I landed on the pavement, beginning to run as my paws felt the cold ground.
"You! Hey, don't run off!"
For some odd reason I slowed back down to a trot. Well, of course I knew the reason. I didn't want to have to walk all the way back to civilization. The forest is no place for a small kitty-cat like me.
As Bjorn's figure rushed toward me, I looked at him and his grey and dull blue coat. As an experienced cat, I raised my tail while I waited for him to scoop me up, but he didnt.
He breathed out heavily with both hands on his hips. "She needs a bath."
"Are you serious? Is that you're priority right now? And why does it sound like you want to keep the damned thing? Are you insane?" The voice of reason, Andrew, exclaimed.
"Why? Are you still planning to sacrifice her even after all that?" Bjorn started to sound as though he was going to 'adopt' me, and I wasn't really liking it. "Derek? Listen, you can go sacrifice all the little things you want, but from now on, leave me out of it!"
"What!? I swear to God, if you keep that thing, I'll fucking kill it! You saw what it did to Frederick, and I don't want to be next after you!" Derek pointed at me and gnashed his teeth, and I think he was finally cracking under my observing gaze.
My tail fell to the ground, and my ears were pinned back as I looked towards Derek. My thoughts were no longer as clouded as before when it came to this man. My tail was flicking behind me. He'll be sorry.
"I never said anything before, but you really are a sick bastard..." Bjorn almost growled as he sneered derisively.
It wasn't uncommon for them to fight this way, and I could only guess that they would make up later. Bjorn was by no means a good person, but he wasn't one that found pleasure in slaughter at least. Though if everything turned the way it was supposed to, he would have gotten over his slight bit of sympathy for me.
I gave him a short glance before I turned my sights back to Derek. I lifted my paw and began stalking towards him, and then running.
He froze, and then took a step back. Knowing him, if I got too close he wouldn't hesitate to punt me into oblivion, but that's just what I wanted.
He had taken several steps back as I slowed down, running in zig-zags, uncharacteristic of a cat. Then, just as he raised a leg to kick me, I dodged under him and ran back into the forest.
"Derek!"
A crash was heard behind me as branches broke and leaves crunched. I looked back to see that Derek had fallen down the steep drop. "Fuck!" He shouted.
It wasn't enough to kill him. Too bad...
"That's karma..." Andrew was uneased by what I'd done, as were Derek and Bjorn.
"K-k-karma." Bjorn was stuttering over himself, and I think I had at that point fully showcased what they should be scared of.
Well, Bjorn, I'll let you off the hook, but you're two pals won't be as lucky. Even if I'm not bad luck, I'll be their karma.
