"So umm, Aunt Cora, thanks for the dinner," Lucky said.

"Well, it's the least I could do; my niece just came homes after months. I mean, I'm surprised I didn't do this sooner." Cora smiled.

"Oh it's ok Cora, family is important and you're family to." Kate reassured.

"Speaking of family, fathers coming home; so Jim, you should probably set up a room."

"Course he is..." Dear old dad visiting home to point out all the things he does wrong wasn't an appealing idea to Jim. "Sweetpea, what do you think about school starting soon?

"You know, it's school,"

"Well you're doing well."

"Yeah, I didn't know." She said, rolling her eyes," It's not like I didn't get a whole trip to Europe from Grampa," Lucky cocked her head, "who we were just talking about..."

"We were, until the subject changed."

"You mean, we were until you changed the subject."

"Well my dad and I don't get along, you know that."

"Why's that?" The entire room stared at her. Accept from Polly, she just ate.

"Excuse me?"

"Just curious," she simpered.

"Well he thinks everything I do is wrong, my company is his company-"

"Didn't you run away at 18?"

"What does that have to do with this?"

"I'm just saying, if you had a son who ran away, got married, did God knows what else, and still give them the company, I'd consider that kind."

You could hear a pin drop.

"How's the roast." Cora tried to cut the tension in the room.

"Lovely; actually, may have some more potatoes?" Lucky replied, and Cora completed her request.

Kate took her husband's defence,"So we are changing the subject?"

"What can I say, I'm doing a Jim," Lucky retorted with the most sugared look on her face. "oh, I almost forgot; I have other arrangements." She stood up and left the kitchen, a small potato in hand.

Jim, shocked, said "Ok, that was rude."

"Well, she is a teenager." Cora started cleaning up.

*~*~*

Lucky fed Spirit the potato. "I mean, I didn't technically lie, I had arrangements, with you..."

They shared a look.

"I mean, the only reason why I said that was because I was uncomfortable, but it was so awkward...

"Ok it was because I was rude but if you look at from my angle, I was making a point that he should consider, so I was simply looking out for my father's best interest, I just sounded like a bitch while doing it...

"I know, if if's and but's were...that thing that Cora used to say, if if's and but's were... something... we'd all have a merry Christmas, or day?"

The horse nayy'd in response.

"Your really easy to talk to Spirit. How about we leave the railway and head to the canyons?" She said mounting the stallion.
