I woke up this morning. My golden curls looking like a mad bush fire. I started to brush my hair while sitting in front of the mirror. Ready for the day ahead of me I walked down the stairs, It was saturday, meaning I didn't have school.

I had the biggest smile possible on my face, I was going down to the lake with a picnic for me Samuel. My mother was already awake and had made me breakfast. After breakfast I packed a basket full of bread rolls ham and cheese as well as two cups and a jug of water.

I went out the door, skipping with glee. I put all the goods into the basket of my bicycle and made my way down the road toward the lake. Once I was there I set everything out next to the big opal tree right next to the lake though Samuel wasn't at the lake yet. A few minutes passed and I heard some one whistling, I looked up in the tree to see Samuel with his big green eyes and blonde hair, I smiled at him in return he grinned at me causing his little dimples to show.

“Come on then! Get down, I didn't pack this just for fun” I said smiling at him, he, still grinned came down the tree, he lost his footing and fell. I ran over to him and he just started laughing so I did too. After a while we went over to the picnic and dug into all the food.

“Jeez you'd think you haven't eaten in days the way you act” I stated laughing at him scoffing all of his roll and down in one go. Samuel didn't like cheese so I ate his share. I shook my head and kept on eating.

“Wanna kick the ball?” I asked after we had been sitting down for a while.

“Sure Aimee!” Samuel side excitedly, we both got up off the ground, I went over to my bike to get the ball. I cam back over to Samuel and as soon as I put the ball on the ground he went for it. He always cheated. We kicked the ball for a while until we were both exhausted, we flopped down on the grass and looked up at the pink sky, the sun was setting over the lake. It reminded me of what my mother once said.

“Cloud's come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add colour to my sunset sky” I mumbled to myself.

“Do you ever wonder what it would be like to fly away with the birds?” I asked Samuel.

“I don't have to” He said, sounding a little down, before I could say anything else he spoke again.

“You need to get home now! Your parents will kill you if you go home any later!” He was right, I packed up my things and said good bye. Heading on home before it got to dark.

I got home just before it got to dark to see. I snuck in and went to my room, sitting on my bed thinking about Samuel's comment when I said about flying away with the birds. I was taken out of my thoughts when I heard someone knocking at my door, supper must be ready. I walked down to the dinning area and sat down, still pondering on what he meant when he said 'I don't have to'.

My parents didn't know about Samuel, they didn't ask about my day or about who my friends were so I never told them, though I wondered if they knew his parents.

“Do you know a couple with a boy called Samuel?” I asked, voicing my thoughts, Ma and Pa both stopped eating, they looked at each other before answering.

“No, I don't think so, why? Do you have a friend called Samuel?” They asked

“Yeah, it doesn't matter though, I was just curious” I said.

They looked at each other then shrugged and went back to silently eating, I liked the silence, but then again in this house I grew up to no one talking to each other. I bet Samuel's was different he was different, I could just imagine his family being loud and happy and always laughing with each other. I sighed and excused myself from dinner, headed straight to my room.
