CHAPTER THIRTY
LABRYINTHUS
Adrian had taken the lead. After all, he knew where he was going- Fayre didn't.
The heat had him sweating like crazy. It wasn't this hot in his Mindscape yet his actual body was safe in the throne room then, the heat would not have permeated his skin. From his experience with his grandfather, he knew that they had to follow the caves downward until they reached a large open space named the Cave of Night. It was so dark that the second you entered it; you lost all vision entirely. The darkest black was everywhere, absorbing any and all light- blinding all its victims.
If they managed to make it out of there alive, then they needed to make their way to the Labyrinth of Amon. It was a circular maze that was almost impossible to calculate. The Halo was placed in the centre of the labyrinth. Adrian sent a silent prayer to any Angels or any Demons listening in. A prayer for them to make it out alive. A prayer for that, even if she hated him for the rest of their lives, that Fayre makes it out unharmed, unscathed and safe.
The caves seemed to stretch on forever. There was little light as they went deeper and deeper into the belly of the mountain. Angels naturally have better eyesight than most so Fayre would have no trouble seeing ahead of her, but neither did Adrian. Whatever gene mutation that allowed him to have wings gave him enhanced senses also it seemed. The silence they created stretched on between them. The humidity becoming worse the more underground they went. Adrian pulled his sleeves up, he looked behind him as he saw Fayre doing the same, but struggling with the thick sleeves of her jacket. He smirked, amused.
"Why don't you just take it off and leave it here, we'll come back for it on our way out."
She glared daggers at him, "I will not, this is my favourite jacket." She may be a Queen-to-be, but she was still a teenage girl. Adrian sent her a withered look over his shoulder before turning around and continuing walking.
"You're sweating buckets, and if we need to fight, you'll lose your grip on your weapons and then we'll both be dead because I'll be forced to save you."
They had strapped their swords to their belts before they left the car. Fayre stocking up her daggers, making sure she had all she needed. Adrian had strapped his small sword next to Mikael, he also produced two small daggers that he placed in his holster and in his boot.
Fayre gave off a huff before shucking off her leather jacket and placing it folded up on the floor, grumbling something about scratching up the leather. She glared at Adrian once more before storming off ahead. She could hear him chuckle behind her.
As Fayre stormed off, Adrian noticed the tunnels had become increasingly darker. Knowing what this meant, he raced off after the Princess.
"Fayre! You're going to get yourself killed. Wait!" he caught up to her and reached out to grab her arm before she stepped over the threshold that clearly marked the beginning of the Dark.
"What, Adrian? Can't handle a girl taking the lead? Is your ego really that big?" She turned to him, glancing at the hand that gripped her ar. His grip was tight, but not bruising.
"Fayre, this is the Cave of Night. Once you step inside, you'll lose all vision. Creatures lurk inside- waiting for prey to come in blind. We need to be extra careful. This is the only way through the mountain."
She looked at him puzzled, "Lose all vision?" He nodded, she hit him in his chest, he stumbled backwards- shock evident on his face, "Why didn't you tell me before, you moron! I could've gotten us both killed." She was angry...really angry.
Adrian straightened himself up, cleared his throat and replied, "Hello," he pointed to his head, "cursed remember- can't speak of anything relating to the location of the Halo."
