A/N: I really don't know why I wrote this; prolly jus' cause I love Vinnie and Undrafted but this is really just a pointless one-shot but hey, if you're reading this, cool! The ending is literally crap but I wrote this in just a few hours so that's what I got. You can enjoy it or not enjoy it, whichever....
Vinnie stood out in the out-field, watching the Wildcat who was up to bat, minding his own business as they played the game. Sweat ran down his forehead and his hair was damp, the sun beating directly down on him from above. It was hot and Vinnie was tired.
He had gotten into a fight with some guy at the bar last night, getting pretty banged up. The guy didn't get a chance to hit his face, but he sure received one too many blows to his ribs. The guy had shoved and slammed him into the wall over and over and whether or not his head had made impact with the wall, Vinnie wasn't sure. But he hurt.
The fight had been pointless, not even knowing the guy, not sure of what the fight had even been about. Vinnie was just glad he had at least done some damage to the guy's face.
As the other team got a hit, Vinnie exhaled a deep breath, closing his eyes a moment, hot from the sun's rays, trying his best to concentrate.
His limbs sore, body tired, he hadn't eaten anything this morning and didn't last night either, going right to sleep because he was drunk. He was hungry and wasn't feeling too great and the sun was not helping either.
Of course Vinnie hadn't said anything to the guys about not feeling well when he first got there, no, it wasn't a big enough issue. Just a sore, bad day, that's it. Besides, none of them seemed to have noticed or shown any signs of concern so there wasn't anything to worry about.
Dells got the next player out and the team made their way to the dug-out, Vinnie, running a hand over his face and through his hair, filing in behind Pat. It was about half-way through the game now, each team with two points.
Vinnie sat on the bench next to Zapata, elbows propped on his knees, resting his chin on both hands, not paying much mind to the boys that laughed and jeered all around him.
He closed his eyes a minute, not trying to doze off but he found himself jolting awake when Zapata nudged him, not noticing Vinnie had momentarily fallen asleep. "Hey, why are you so quiet?" He was laughing, just being himself.
Vinnie sat up, eyes blinking, groggy. "Wha-? Quiet?"
"Yea, you been quiet all day, man." Zapata just laughed.
"Oh. Sorry." Vinnie didn't make much of it, resting his chin back in his hands, eyes already closed, his head heavy, wanting sleep. He jumped awake when the loud voices of the others getting up to go back out to the field woke him, making him shake his head, grabbing his glove as he stood up.
He squinted and blinked, trying to get his eyes to wake up as he went to his position, sulking at the heat from the sun again. He found himself beginning to let out deep breaths as he stood in place and watched, shaking his head as sweat ran down his face, head heavy with sudden pain.
Soon enough, Vinnie was panting, hot, chest heaving as he tried to watch the batter, vision blurring a little.
Half mad at himself and half mad from the heat, Vinnie let out a groan, shaking his head and rubbing at his eyes with his hand and glove, wanting to concentrate.
From the other side, Pat sent him a yell. "Vinnie! Watch!" He growled.
Vinnie flinched a little and looked up, but still everything looked a little fuzzy. His head was pounding and he panted, feeling like he should sit down, legs going a little wobbly. His eyes kept trying to close shut and he let out another groan, wondering why he was suddenly feeling so sick.
