"I knew I'd find you here !"
Sasuke said as he sat down across (Name), who was at the library again, sitting at her usual table in the corner.
"How smart of you, Uchiha Sasuke."
(Name) looked up from her book at Sasuke for a second, and then, started reading again. Sasuke glared at her, but decided to ignore her sarcastic statement. Searching his pockets, he got out something and placed it on the table before (Name).
"What ?"
"I got it for you."
It was a little box filled with little heart-shaped chocolates wrapped in different coloured shiny papers.
"They look hand-made."
"My mother made them."
(Name) looked at the box for a while, and then looked at Sasuke.
"Unfortunately for you, I don't like sweet things."
"But-- "
"If you got your mother to make them especially for me, then tell her that I apologized."
"She'd still feel bad."
"If you thought chocolates could melt my heart, you were horribly mistaken."
"I was just trying to show you my good side."
"Oh ? And giving chocolates to a girl is your so-called 'good side' ?"
"W-what else ?! This is how I am nice to a girl !!"
The librarian walked over to their table and tapped on it and glared at Sasuke.
"Keep it down." she told him.
"..Sorry."
Sasuke mumbled a quiet apology and looked at (Name), who was already snickering at him. He glared at her, and she ignored him as usual and continued to read her book.
"So, how do YOU think should I be nice to a girl ?"
He pulled (Name)'s book out of her hands and held it over his head when she tried to reach for it. (Name) glared at him, exhaled, and sat back in her seat.
"Well ?"
Sasuke prompted her to answer. She adjusted her glasses with one hand and waved the other in mid-air.
"I don't know. Figure it out yourself."
"What ?"
"I don't know. Figure it out yourself."
"I heard you earlier !"
"Then why did you say 'what' ?"
"I didn't mean it that way ! I meant, you must have some expectations.. right ?"
"Oh. And if I do, can I suppose that you'll live up to them ?"
"I'll try."
"How flattering. But I don't have any expectations from you, Uchiha Sasuke."
"You don't ?"
"I don't."
"But, you must have something, right ?"
(Name) looked at him blankly.
"I don't expect anything from anybody. Besides, no guy has ever been nice to me so I don't know what to expect."
Sasuke looked back at (Name) with shock. Slowly, his shocked expression turned into a normal one, and then formed a smirk. Letting out a small laugh, he looked at (Name) sympathetically.
"Hah ! Why would anyone be nice to someone like you ?!"
Sasuke kept smirking at (Name), happy that he had found something against her.
"......"
His once smirking face slowly turned into a grim one; (Name) had not said anything in return. He kept looking at her, waiting for her to throw an insult at him like she usually does, or a remark, or some sarcasm, or anything at all, but she just sat there staring down at her feet.
"Uh, no, I.... I didn't mean it that--- "
"Uchiha Sasuke."
Sasuke looked up at who had interrupted his speech. It was the librarian again.
"I already warned you once, didn't I ? You're being a nuisance to all the students here. Please leave."
The librarian shoved Sasuke towards the door. Sasuke resisted.
"But.. "
"Go."
The librarian sternly said. Sasuke was angry, but he knew he was helpless against a teacher. Muttering things under his breath, he headed towards the door. (Name) still sat there looking at her feet.
"Sorry."
Sasuke mumbled as he passed her. He was not sure whether she heard it or not, because she did not respond in any way.
Once (Name) knew for sure that Sasuke had left, she sighed. She looked back at the door. Then, she looked at her book lying on the table. She took off her glasses and rubbed her eyes. Then, she put them back on and looked at the box of chocolates. She opened it and took one out. She tore off the shiny wrapper and stared at the little heart-shaped chocolate.
"It wouldn't hurt to just taste it."
She said to herself as she brought the chocolate closer to her mouth. She knew Sasuke had lied when he said his mother made it. It was probably he himself who had made them. She wasn't sure. Even though she disliked sweet things, she was going to try it.
Just as she was about to pop it in her mouth, somebody caught her wrist and stopped her. There was a group of girls smiling forced smiles at her.
"Yes ?"
(Name) said, trying to ignore the tight grip on her hand, which got tighter by the second, as contradicting to the smiling face the girl had.
"We would like to have a little talk with you, Miss (Last Name) (Name)." said the girls in a sickly sweet voice.
(Name) raised a brow at those girls. What they said sounded more like an order rather than a request to her. She knew where all this was heading. She stood up from her seat.
"All right."
"Follow us please."
Even though the girls said that, the one holding her wrist didn't let go of it and pulled her along roughly. The chocolate in (Name)'s hand had already started melting and made her hand sticky. She didn't like it. But she couldn't just throw it down. She had left the box, along with her belongings, back at the library. Not that she was worried about them, though. Other than her cell phone and some money, she didn't carry anything valuable.
The girl let go of her wrist once they reached the schools backyard. School hours were already over; the only students staying back were club members, or those who wanted to study, and some like Sasuke who had no better business to do. But Sasuke also had probably left. The backyard was isolated. Well, it was always isolated even during school hours.
"Well..?"
(Name) crossed her arms, ignoring the stickiness of her palm, and put her weight on one leg.
"Got quite an attitude, haven't we ?"
One of the girls said and smirked at (Name), who ignored her. Another one spoke up,
"Let's get straight to the point. I... WE want you to leave Sasuke alone."
"Huh ? What did you say ?" said (Name) in a mocking tone.
"Stay away from him, you b***h !"
Another one raised her voice, losing her temper already.
"Oh. So THIS is how Uchiha Sasuke's 'fan-girls' are. I pity him."
"What ?! Well, if YOU had some sense, you would've known he'd never take interest in a nerd like you. Don't you think you're taking the other day's joke too seriously ?" (Referring to Sasuke's confession.)
"Oh ? If you girls didn't have such bad eyesight, you would've noticed that Uchiha Sasuke approaches me by himself. Never once have I gone to him."
Knowing there was truth in (Name)'s words, the girls were speechless. But they weren't going to back out now. One of them stepped forward. Pointing a finger at (Name), she said,
"Listen missy, whatever it is, we want you to avoid Sasuke even if he approaches you."
"That is what I've been trying to do, though. He's really persistent, you know."
(Name) smirked. She was enjoying pissing these girls off. But she knew what would come along with it.
"What do you mean ?!"
The angered girl held (Name)'s collar and glared at her. (Name) simply stared back and slapped the girl's hand away.
"Hands off, you filth."
The girl felt (Name)'s sticky palm. Then, she realized.
"That chocolate... who gave it to you ?" she asked (Name).
(Name) crossed her arms and looked away and ignored her question.
"Who gave it to you ?!"
The girl yelled, shaking (Name) back and forth. (Name) smirked.
"What would you do, if I said, it was... Uchiha Sasuke ?"
The words had hardly left her mouth when the girl slapped her. Hard. (Name) fell down and hit her head on the wall of the school building. Her glasses fell off and broke.
The girl who slapped (Name) looked at the bruise on her cheek. She hadn't intended to hit her that hard. In fact, she hadn't intended to hit her at all. Her emotions had gotten the better of her. She stood there panicking, but not showing it to the other girls. How could she, when she had led them all ?
"L-let's leave.. "
They nudged her to leave with them. She gave (Name) one final look and started walking off.
"S-serves you well, (Name). Now you know what happens when you get close to Sasuke."
(Name) heard that statement very well, but she couldn't reply. Her head was dizzy from the fall. Her vision was also blurry. She reached for her glasses, but when she felt them, she knew they were broken.
After her head stopped spinning, she got up and put her broken glasses in her pocket. Staying close to the wall, she felt her way towards the library.
On reaching there, it was almost empty. She managed to make her way to the table. The box of chocolates was still there. She sat on the chair, putting her head on the desk. It had started spinning again. But she knew she had to get home. Reaching for her cell phone in her bag, she squinted as she dialed a number. After a few rings, the person answered the call.
"Hello ?"
"Hello, Sis, can you come pick me up from school ?"
