Prologue
The house lay untidily on its cold, hard grounds. Gothic opulence surrounded it like a swarm of angry wasps. The windows were vast with velvet embroidered curtains swaying in the strong wind. The rooms were just as colossal, they definitely sniggered in dark luxury. In one there was a light on. The house seemed to laugh in malicious glee.
Chapter 1
It was an average day in Criccieth. Maddy and Lily had been at Criccieth Green High. It was a bleak early winter's day. Now, Maddy and Lily, who are they? For a start, they are sisters, and completely different! Maddy likes 'girly girl' things, as Lily calls them. She is really into dance, pink, dress making, Barbie dolls, make up and boys. Whereas Lily likes football, books, survival skills, science and maths. Let's get one thing straight, Maddy is downright stupid. Lily has got top marks in every test since she can remember. Their old friends use to say " Here come Bright Spark and Dimwit!" At 4:00, Maddy and Lily happened to be leaving school. On their way out, they met Nathan, he had a HUGE crush on Lily. He couldn't resist it."See Ya Tomboy!" He shouted to Lily. They had been at club tournaments : a dance off and a girls football match. Therefore the same Thursday afternoon argument commenced. What is better dance or football? That's how it started.
"Come on Maddy of course football is better than prancing around"

"No Lily how can you not see! Dancing is fun and what a young lady should be doing."
"Yeah Maddy in , like, the 1800s . I think you might have paid attention in history class for a complete second. I'm amazed.Stop being so sexist. A girl can do everything a boy can do- just more!"
"Lily the only thing you can see is your view."
Anyway. They were walking alone because their parents were working late. Lily had only just memorised the route. That was the only reason they actually got to their house. "
"Maddy, what is that?"
"What? Oh god! The light" Maddy exclaimed staring, transfixed, by the light in the house.
"Lily Did you leave that on?"
"No Dumbo but I hope it's not some of those old, creepy toys"
"Oh come on Einstein of course it isn't ." She paused."But what if it's small and dark...Lily we have to check it out"
"Certainly not! I'm the older one. I'm the responsible one. You are not going in there ... anyway Mum would kill me!"
"What if I gave you a pound?"
"Maddy I'm not five!"
"10?"
"Not happening"
"20?"
"No way"
"20 and some chocolate"
"Fine. Let's go." The two girls walked into the house , unbeknownst to the terrible fate that awaited them
