Happy Birthday, Harrison

It was directly after tea that Rowan* came up to Dolan. He was just about to head back to the Slytherin common room when the Ravenclaw stopped him.

"Hey, Dolan. Do you have a minute?"

"Sure, I guess. Just, make it fast", was Dolan's disinterested answer.

"So, you know that it's Harrison's birthday tomorrow, right? (he nodded to that) I was wondering what you've got him. He's turning seventeen** that means he'll be of age tomorrow. That's kind of a big deal, so I want to make sure, everything is going right", the Ravenclaw head girl told him.

"What I'm getting him? Well, what are you getting him?", Dolan tried avoiding answering by asking questions himself.

"Oh, it's perfect, no need to worry about it. I've planned it for quite some time now", was the answer to that, "I really just need to know about your present. You have it already, don't you?"

"I still have time until tomorrow", Dolan shrugged his shoulders.

"You can't be serious about that. Dolan, tell me that this is some kind of bad joke. Harrison's birthday is tomorrow and you still don't have the present? Or at least an idea?", she sounded really shocked at this idea.

"You have your present for him and you don't need to worry about mine. Are we finished here?", Dolan was getting annoyed.

"Just... don't screw up", were Rowan's last words before they parted and Dolan was free to go to his common room.

Harrison woke up early the next day. Sea and Leo both stood in front of his bed, singing Happy Birthday to him, incredibly out of tune but with great enthusiasm.

"Aww, thanks guys. A Banshee couldn't have done it better", the birthday boy laughed.

"You're welcome", Sea replied with an awkward bow.

"How does it feel to be of age, man?", Leo asked. Harrison looked around and down and shrugged his shoulders.

"Not that different. Not very exiting yet, to be honest."

"Disappointing", was Leo's comment at that, while he was already leaving their room.

"You should probably change, mate", Sea shouted after him but Leo appeared to be out of hearing range already. Harrison and Sea just looked at each other, both shrugged their shoulders and got ready for the day themselves. Leo would notice eventually. Hopefully...

The Gryffindor common room was already filled with people, all congratulating Harrison as Sea and he came downstairs. The head boy smiled in every direction, thanking people, getting hugs from a few that he knew and some small presents that he would open after school. It might be his birthday but classes were still taking place like they always did.

As Harrison made his way down to the Great Hall for breakfast, a crowd of Gryffindors followed him, Leo, Sea and Percy** by his side. Leo (who was actually wearing his school uniform by now) had his arm wrapped around Harrison's shoulders while Sea shared some silly jokes. The four of them sat down at the Gryffindor table and started piling food on their plates. Harrison gazed through the room. Maybe Dolan was there already? But he didn't see his favourite Slytherin. He was probably still getting ready or had finished eating by now. Harrison tried to shrug it off but his good mood began decreasing. He would see Dolan in potions anyway, he told himself, no need to stress about it. But he still felt his absence.

Harrison barely survived the lessons before potions. People in his classes came up to him, congratulating, while he tried to force a smile on his face. This was over now however and he walked towards the dungeon where the potion lesson took place, expecting to see his boyfriend after turning every corner. But when he arrived at the still closed door, Dolan wasn't there. It's one of his favourite subjects, he'll be here, stop driving yourself crazy, Harrison told himself.
