Time To Take A Shot

Everything was a blur, my head felt light and my lungs felt like they were lit with a fire of adrenaline. Alex and Lafayette were shirtless with their ties wrapped around their foreheads as they drunkenly sang to their abcs. I giggled in the corner, looking over to Hercules who was all but passed out on a table, but John was nowhere to be found. I decided that I had enough of the sweaty room and filled up two more cups before taking my leave.

"John..?"

I mumbled walking through the hallway. With a sigh, I walked over to the window that overlooked the pool, and I'm glad I did because I saw a man. A man with a familiar mess of curls on his head with his feet dipped into the water. I took a breath and made my way to the elevator, going down to the pool floor and stepping out. My palms became oddly sweaty and my forehead felt warm with anticipation. Maybe it was the alcohol, but a sudden surge on confidence pushed my legs forward and as if I was gliding, made my way to the pool.

"..hey. You left?"

That was dumb. Of course he left, if he didn't then he wouldn't be sitting here.

"Huh? Yeah, I got claustrophobic in there. Needed some fresh air"

I sat down next to him and handed him one of the cups, he took it and looked down at the syrupy liquid before taking a deep drink from it. I rolled up my pant legs and dipped my feet into the cool water, taking a sip from my own drink.
The stars were bright and dazzling, showing a few constellations that reflected in the dark water. I heard a shift next to me, John had layed down next to me, so I did the same.

"Can I ask you something?"

I turned my head to John and pursed my lips.

"Yeah, anything"

He turned his face to me, his brown eyes deep pools of many emotions.

"Do you ever get the feeling that... your time is coming? That the end is approaching at a faster pace than others'?"

I sat up on my elbow and smiled softly, putting my cup down.

"Sometimes. That's why I live everyday like it's my last. No regrets and no missed chances"

The man perked up and did the same on his elbow, the gaze from his intense eyes burned through mine as if something was sparked into him.

"No missed chances"

The statement hung in the air, and the space between us was decreasing by the second. I felt the ghost of a kiss, but pulled away.

No. It's too early. It's too late. We're too intoxicated.

"I'm.. sorry, I'm not trying to be rude, just.. not now"

John looked away, pushing himself up all the way before standing up. I was going to stop him, but felt that I had chased him enough. That was so dumb. As the door to the building closed, I poured the rest of my drink in the pool and looked up at the stars with a blank mind.

"..what are you doing (y/n)?"

I mumbled to myself and dropped my arm over my face. Tomorrow is going to be.. awkward.
