A few weeks pass, and my grades have been improving drastically. Ian learned that I'm not actually dumb or not understanding the work, it's just that I don't have motivation to do the work.

His parents came home for a week, and then left for a month long trip to Fiji.

He also learned that Diana had been cheating on him for some time now. He confronted her in person the first time that it came to his attention, when he first started tutoring. She denied it and he believed her.

Then one of his friends, Cayden, started messaging her and they ended up having sex. Cayden's little sister, Kaylee, had a video of her leaving his room wearing nothing but one of his t-shirts, to which she sent to Ian.  He broke up with her at lunch the following Monday.

I thought it was messed up, and I felt horrible for Ian. He's such a sweet soul, and he didn't deserve that.

I figured we would put tutoring on hold, until he felt better, but he insisted that we keep going. I felt bad because for the most part, he wasn't as talkative. I didn't need help with the work, I just sat in his presence and did it.

He spent most of the time on his phone or throwing away photos of them that he had in his room.

"How are you holding up?" I ask him, as we walk down the hall together.

"I'm doing better than I was. I'm starting to realize just how toxic she was for me. I can't believe I couldn't see it before. Oh well, you live and you learn I guess." he shrugs.

"Yeah. I'm sorry though. You didn't deserve that. You're literally the sweetest person I know."

"Thank you, I try to be nice to everybody, but you see where that got me."

"I guess so. Are we still doing 'tutoring' tonight?"

"I'm not feeling it. Wanna just hangout?" he meets my eyes.

"Yeah, sure. Same time?"

"Yeah. I'll probably be there around 4:30, if that's cool."

"That's fine with me. Have a good practice, I'll see you later." I smile.

"Thanks, see ya." He gives me a side hug and walks into the locker room. I blush a little bit and make my way home.

It will be nice to just have a chill night with him. Just the two of us... hanging out... watching Netflix... eating dinner. It'll kind of be like a date, but also totally not a date because he isn't interested and he just broke up with Diana three weeks ago. He's also just my best friend.

When I get home, I change into something more comfortable, which ends up being black leggings and a t-shirt.

I clean my room up a little bit and make my bed. Then I sit at my desk and scroll through Instagram, when I come across Diana's recent post. She's sitting in Cayden's lap and making out with him. Her caption simply states "i found the one."

That's horrible. Poor, poor Ian. I hope he doesn't see it.

He texts me saying he was on his way, and that was my cue to get ready. He arrived shortly after, and we didn't really talk in the car.

When we arrived at his house, before we walked into his house, I pulled him into a hug. He was a little bit tense at first, but after a second returned the hug. We stood there for a minute or two  before going into his house.

"What was that for?" he asks as we climb the stairs to his room.

"You seem like you needed it. Did you not like it?" I ask, sitting on the edge of his bed.
