Earth stood on the roof overseeing the garden as he watched the prince from a safe distance.
A part of him is glad that the prince feels the same attraction but he is also annoyed that his intended doesn't understand the pact and the workings of it. How can his intended be so beautiful, smart and stupid at the same time?
He thought about telling Benjorn the truth but his pride would not allow him to betray the oath of the pact.
"He's an idiot, isn't he?"
Earth was surprised to hear a voice from behind him, he turned and saw the king standing behind him.
"Your majesty." Earth gave his curtsy towards the older king.
"You are his intended, am I correct?" Koram was blunt about what he thinks and it took Earth by surprise.
"What makes you think that I am his intended?" Earth answered.
"You didn't deny it."
"Nor did I confirm." he challenged.
"So should I start calling you son then?" the older king looked at him inquisitively.
"You know it's... all of there are supposed to be a secret, right?" he just looked at his soon to be father-in-law.
"It's just between the two kings. The moment he told me that he wants to break up with his intended and saw how he acted around you, I pieced it together."
Earth was impressed with Koram, he did not realize how perceptive the king is. "Well, I'm impressed." he muttered.
"It doesn't take a genius, you know?" Koram chuckled. "But what do you plan once he tells you that he wants to 'break up' with 'you'? He wouldn't even see your face during the consummation of the pact. He would need to wait until the sun rises."
Earth stood there watching Ben kick through the grass "He's going to be in for a surprise."
"But what if he leaves you just before daybreak?" the older king asked.
"Then he will no longer see me. Ever." Earth said with such finality that the older king gasped in surprise.
"Are you sure about that? You know the repercussions of not living together."
"I said he will no longer see me. I din't say I won't be living within his proximity." Earth countered.
"Fate has a weird way of making the both of you as intendeds, huh? Two stubborn, hard-headed individuals. I hate to admit it but if all of what we are talking about will really happen, I wonder who would cave in first?" Koram mused as he stroke his beard.
"Not me." Earth said. He was about to orb away when the older king stopped him.
"Wait..." Koram said "before you leave, can you just orb to my son's side and bid him goodnight?"
"Why?" Earth asked, confused with the king's request.
"I just want to make sure that you are the elf he was kissing in the sacred field."
Earth blushed. "I don't have to bid him good night for you to confirm that. I am telling you right now that it was me."
"I knew it." Koram laughed.
"Good night, father." Earth said as he disappeared in a swirl of white lights.
Koram stood there as he watch his son get frustrated under a tree. "Let's see if the fae king can rein you in, son."
