"Benjorn, mind your behaviour!" the king exclaimed. Disbelief was written on his face.
"I apologize father" Ben said with a wicked smile on his face.
"There is no need to apologize" Earth said, "I was not offended. Not at all" Earth returned a knowing look at Ben. Ben regretted that Earth had to wear a veil to conceal his face. He would love to see it again.
"Anyway, dinner will be served in a few hours, I would suggest for you to enjoy the amenities of the palace, we have a garden full of flowers that you might enjoy while waiting." Koram told the faes.
"I would love to see that." Earth responded.
"I would love to show it to you." Ben responded.
"And I would love for you to stay here Benjorn, we have a lot to talk about." said the king.
A chuckle came out of the fae king when he saw the aggravated look on Ben's face.
"I would ask the head master to accompany you while my son and I discuss some important matters." and the king beckoned Ben to his side.
As soon as the faes left and the door closed, the king's hand immediately went to Ben's ear to pinch and twist it. "When will you act like the future king of this land?!" All that Ben can do is endure the pain. The king took a deep breath and let go of his ear. "Do you really want me to die early because of your behaviour? I'm going to suffer a heart attack because of what you are doing!"
Ben dearly loved his father, when his mother died after giving birth to him, the king focused all his love to his only son and Ben will never take that for granted. "I apologize father, and I want to be honest with you."
"Say it."
"I don't want to marry the chosen of the fae."
"WHAT?"
"Well, I don't want to stay married to the chosen of the fae."
The king started to rub his temples and gave Ben an exasperated look. "Ben, my son, I love you to the moon and back, however, you are making it hard for me to love you right now."
"Let me explain this father"
The king is starting to get tired of this conversation faster than the next blink of his eyes "explain what exactly?"
"I have researched all the scrolls and books in the library about the pact" the king just looked at him and he continued "the magic of the pact activates once the two requirements are met: the handfasting and the consummation of marriage"
"And what is your point?"
"My point is, there is nothing that would stop the pact from working after that." the king was starting to grasp the explanation of his son "if I don't want to stay with the person, nothing is stopping me."
"True," the king had to agree "however, after going through the ceremony and the your first night together in bed, your magic will intertwine and you would start to live a symbiotic life with your husband. And you know it only ends until one dies. Living apart is physically painful at some point."
Ben forgot about that small detail, but he'd endure anything to be with the fae king.
