I sprinted past the blur of laughing teens, tears welling in my eyes. I didn't pay attention to my surroundings. I didn't care. As long as i got as far away from them as possible.
Thorns scratched my limbs and i winced, carrying on running. Maybe wearing a tank top and shorts wasn't the best clothing choice.
If I'd had looked around me, i might've noticed that the plants and trees were thicker and taller.○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○
Water. The murky liquid engulfed me. I can't swim. I tried to scream, only letting out the last remaining bubbles of oxygen as my mouth filled with lake water. My body was sinking. Fast.
If nobody cared about me, i might as well drown.
Giant's POV
I walked along through the trees into the clearing with the lake. Sometimes it's nice to have some peace. I stared at my reflection in the water.
"What the..?"
Something was in the lake.
How? No fish had been in the waters for years now. Was it... a human?Human's POV
I closed my eyes, the weight of failure dragging me down deeper...
Something touched me. I snapped my eyes open, dirty liquid stinging them. It was hard to see properly...
OH GOD--A huge hand closed around my body and swept me above water level. I squeezed my eyes tight, coughing and spluttering in the palm, soaking wet. The giant male examined my miniscule body with curiosity.
I tried to back away, my expression twisted in fear. Another hand stopped me."Hey, careful! I don't want you to fall! Are you alright?" he gasped, "oh goodness! I'm sorry! D-did i scare you?!"
Speechless, i sat silently in his hand, shivering with cold and fear. He must've sensed how tense i was, as he placed me down onto the ground.
I glanced up at him, taking in his jet black matt of floppy hair and ocean blue eyes.I cautiously took a few steps back, expecting him to grab me suddenly. He didn't.
I took a deep breath and ran.
~
"That was two years ago. I was thirteen back then..."
Raven looked at me with her widened, dark eyes.
"Woah.. he didn't kidnap you?"
I shook my head, letting my messy curls of mud brown hair bounce on my shoulders. It was becoming hard to believe it myself, considering most giant's hostility to humans."Well, I'm gonna go outside and join in the snowball fights," Raven placed down her mug of hot chocolate, "you wanna come? We won't be teens in a few more years. Might as well make the most of it.."
I just shrugged, stirring the remains of my own hot chocolate.
"You go ahead. It's too cold out there for my liking."
And i don't really enjoy hanging out with lots of other peers, i added silently."Alright then.. bye!" Raven took off and ran to join everyone else, all of them laughing and hurling snowballs like children.
I couldn't help the fact that i isolated myself from almost everybody. It was just who i was. A socially awkward nobody.
Sighing, i stood up, pulling on my coat and walking out the door under the dark evening skies, snow falling heavily around me. Church bells chimed 7 times. Christmas songs played in the distance, getting quieter and quieter as i continued to trudge through the snow, each step making the settled snow crunch under my boots.
Screams snapped me out of my trance and i looked around, confused. Several people ran past me in the opposite direction, heading south of town.
Which way was i going to go?
North.
I continued walking onwards to find out the disruption that seemed to scare people away. Also, if everyone was running away from that part of town, then it'd be less busy.I was too cold and tired to care about my own safety. Curiosity killed the cat, they say. Nevermind.
Walking through the now deserted streets, i scanned the area, expecting a serial killer to jump out at me or something. Nobody appeared.
My legs were starting to ache, so i sat down outside a cafe, the flickering lights still on. Looked like everybody just fled the streets immediately, leaving everything untouched. How strange.
I curled up against the cafe's door, the biting cold attacking my body, unaware of the approaching figure.
After a few minutes, i sensed myself being watched. I squinted through eye slits, then widened my eyes in shock and pinned myself against the cafe walls, breathing quickly.
A 100 ft tall male peered at me, crouching down over my body.
There was nowhere to run.He reached out and curled his fingers around me, his skin emitting a strange, comforting warmth, which, to be honest, would've been nicer in a different situation to being captured by a dangerous, giant male.
I was lifted up into the air, eyes observing my body. Blue eyes.
And... black hair.We recognised each other simultaneously.
I gasped and looked up at him in surprise. "I-it's you!"The male stood up with me in his cupped hands, watching me, concerned.
"Why are you so cold? What are you doing?" he questioned, stroking me to try and warm me up."What are YOU doing in a human town?" I asked him, avoiding the question.
He himself chose not to answer mine either, walking out of the village with me silently.
[Time skip]
The giant male placed me on a wooden table in his house.
"Now then, what's your name? I believe i never caught it last time.."
I looked up at him.
"Oh, uh.. it's Kiera." I muttered. The male smiled at me.
"I suppose you'll want to know my name. I'm Jackson."He pulled over a chair and sat down, resting his chin in his hands as he looked at me.
"You do realise you're a very beautiful girl, don't you?"
I shook my head.
"No I'm not."Jackson gently picked me up by my clothing and gave me a serious look.
"Yes, Kiera, you are. You just don't realise it yet."He lifted me so i was eye level with him.
"Everybody hates me." I stated."I don't. I may not be human, but i like you. You were the only thing on my mind for over a year, Kiera.."
Unable to argue back, i folded my arms and looked away, a slight blush on my face.
"You know I'm right..."
