Chapter 1

A girl walked down the stairs in full swag.

She walked down to the dining table and sat beside her brothers and sister.

Kali: "Good morning Gauri beta."

Gauri: "Good morning Kali Thakur."

The ladies were serving the food to everyone...Roshni placed a place in front of Gauri.

Roshni: "Yeh lo Gauri...parathe khao."

(Here Gauri....have these parathe.)

Gauri smiled...Roshni placed the parathe on Gauri's plate...Everyone starts eating.

Ruhaan: "Papa kuch log hai woh humhari ek zameen khali nhi kar rahe...uss jagah pe school bana tha aur woh yahan cigarette ki factory banana chahte hai...kya karna hai?"

(Papa some people are not evicting our land...we were making school on that land and they want to build a cigarette factory there...what do we do now?)

Kali smiles and continues to eat his 5th paratha...Gauri who was also on her 4th paratha looks up at Kali.

Kali: "Gauri tumhe pata hai na kya karna hai?"

(Gauri do you know what to do?)

Gauri reflects the smirk Kali had on his face. The brothers and Svetlana look at each other...smile and shake their heads.

Swara steps up...looking concerned.

Swara: "Kali ji par woh toh ek ladki hai."

(Kali ji she is a girl.)

Kali: "Swara ji aapni beti ko maine beto se badke paala hai."

(Swara ji I have raised our daughter more like a son.)

Gauri: "Haan Swara aur tu tension mat le...sherni akeli jati hai shikar pe."

(Yes Swara and you don't worry...a lioness goes alone for a hunt.)

Prerna: "Mujhe abhi tak ek baat samaj nhi hai ki Gauri tu...Mama Papa ko naam se kyu bulati hai?"

(I never understood one thing that why do you call Mom Dad by their names?)

The family smiles while the bahus are still confused...suddenly they hear a voice.

Voice: "Aur iss ladki se umeed bhi kya kar sakhte hai."

(What else can you expect from this girl.)

They all turn around to see Kali's Massi (maternal aunt) standing there.
