The café was pretty quiet and empty that day. Usually, it was filled with students cramming their homework or having study groups. I picked out a table in the corner and strolled over to it. I urged Mason to sit on the inside while I sit on the outside but he seemed to have taken a liking towards Marco and sat with him instead.
The café was beautiful. There were beautiful hanging plants and gorgeous wallpaper. The wallpaper was floral with tiny life-like animals on it. The main color of the café was blue and green which explains the cute uniforms and tableware. The chairs were madeout of wood and the tables were blue with green swirls. The food here was amazing. The specialty being smoked salmon with cream cheese on bread which they call Lee's delight. the drinks here were amazing too.
After deciding what to order, we called on the waiter and said our orders. The waiter was pretty cute. Blue eyes, freckles, pretty muscular and his name was Zach. One of the players on the team. He took our orders and left but not before sending a wink my way. I looked over at Marco and saw his hands in a fist.
"What's got your panties in a twist?" I chuckled
"the guy was basically undressing you with his eyes" he grumbled under his breath.
I rolled my eyes before asking," So, how's your family? They still fight a lot?"
"Luckily not as much as they used to. Mum and dad have kinda pulled through after moving to New York. I guess all they needed was a change. I never understood why we had to leave but after a while when they stopped fighting, I understood everything." He blabbed," I mean they were only fighting because of my future. Mum thought that if we moved, I would struggle because of my anti-socialness if that's even a word. And dad thought that if we moved it would make me more social and he was right."
"That's great. I remember when you would come over to my house to cry about it. Those days were dark but, I'm glad you're back. Things aren't the same when I only text or email you."
"Yeah and remember the day I left? That was hell."
-Flashback –
Marco ran into Jer's room and sat on the blue bed, beside me. He was babbling all sorts of things and he was on the verge of tears. I could see the tears on his eyes and I knew why. I was holding back the tears. Today was goodbye Marco day. He was leaving all the way to the Big Apple.
" I don't wanna go! They can't make me go! I'm going to stay under your bed for the rest of my life Jer. Don't forget to bring food with you and feed me whenever you're here. I might get hungry." Marco dramatically said
"sure buddy. I'm here for you. I'm not letting you leave. I didn't know your parents were that mean." Jer agreed as I stood up and hugged Marco.
" I can hear footsteps outside. I'm gonna hide!"
"Marco honey! Are you in there?! We have to go!" Marco's mum exclaimed as she entered the room.
-end of flashback-
Marco hid under the bed that day and was obviously caught by his mum and scolded for hiding there. The food came and everyone started digging in. We all enjoyed the food and talked about our day. More specifically Mason's day.
"There's this new kid named Kiseki and he is from Japan. He brought these cool toys with him and he gave it to everyone in class. He brought so many. He's like a kid Japanese Santa!" Mason spoke animatedly. Marco glanced over at me when he thought I wasn't looking with this smile on his face that I can't describe.
As Mason finished his story, Marco asked, "Hey, do you remember the first time we met?"
"Yeah," I chuckled. "We were at the park and u knocked over the sandcastle I built in the sandpit and Jer decided it was a good idea to hit you and scold you."
Marco grinned, "Yeah and after he scolded me I helped you re-build the sandcastle and after that we-"
"Became joined at the hip" I finished. "Oh by the way, does Jer know you're here? Does he even know that you are the new kid and you are definitely not a girl? Unless of course, you wanna admit that you are a girl?"
"Jer doesn't know yet and I am definitely not a girl. Can't you see all the girls looking at me right now?"
"What girls? The old lady in the corner ready to pounce on you?" I snorted
"Anyway... I'm surprising Jer later."
"Speaking of which... I've got to get ready. Are you coming to try out for a spot this year?"
"That my friend is why I'm back. I got a scholarship here. A sports scholarship."
"Well, then let's get to the field."
We left the café and drove to my house. I decided it would be better if I rode with Jer to the training and I also needed to clear my head because damn, he's hot. I entered the house and saw Jer sitting on the couch watching tv and eating frosted flakes. Mason ran towards him and jumped on him, spilling the cereal on Jer's shirt.
"Mason!" Jer shouted as he stood up to clean himself.
Mason giggled at Jer and started running towards the pool. Well, that's one way to get entertained. Jer started pulling his shirt off while muttering incoherent things to himself. I sighed and shook my head as I walked up the stairs.
"Wait, a minute sis. Who's car was that?"
"Oh, you'll find out later," I shrugged
I entered my room and searched for my jersey. The team was going against the Jaguars. Our rival. We had been prepping for this game for a long time and we were sure we would win. I played as sweeper while Jer was the striker. I grabbed my phone and dialed Jordie's number.
"Hey girl!" Jordie chirped
"So why weren't you in school today? You weren't playing hookie were you" I questioned.
" No, no, I'm sick. Which reminds me, could you send me the notes for physics? Ms.Mantel hates me. I swear one day she will attack me. "
"Yeah that's fine. I'll send it over ASAP. Ok gtg the match is tonight" I chuckled
I looked over to where my blue cougar jersey was hanging and put it over my Nike sports bra. This game was going to be the highlight of soccer season. The boys were amped up and the team is planning a small house party to celebrate the win. We worked hard to get this far and we weren't going to let our rivals beat us.
I trotted down the stairs excitedly and grabbed a pre-game snack. Jer and I had a small good luck pre-game ritual that consisted of us eating a banana and drinking a shot of some disgusting vitamin supplement that our parents believed would keep our energy up. The game was going to start in 2 hours and we were set to go. We said our goodbyes and hopped into the car.
"Liv, don't forget to use your left leg. It will surprise the opponent and you need to work on using your non-dominant leg." Jer pestered
I rolled my eyes and nodded quietly, praying to God that we were going to win this game. My phone pinged with a text from Marco stating that he was also on his way to watch the game as my heart raced a little faster.
