not a lot of things bothered draco malfoy. he was a pureblood slytherin who everyone knew and were scared of, he was titled the slytherin prince for godric's sake. he had everything he wanted and more all to himself. that is, except them. and the person with who he shared them, was the person he despised the most.

y/n l/n was one of the most beautiful people draco malfoy had ever seen. they were a pureblood, just like him, though they were in y/h. though their house meant nothing to him at this point, it was the people they'd associated themselves with that set him off. the 'golden trio' of hogwarts, hermione granger, ron wealsey and his biggest rival, harry potter. the thought alone boiled his blood.

y/n wasn't like the other students at hogwarts. they didn't swoon over him, but they didn't despise him either. every other person he'd talked to was one or the other, but not y/n. they treated him like a genuine person, a friend even, and that is what really caught him. he wasn't thought of as a monster to them. he was simply draco malfoy. they didn't care about status or houses. they were perfect.

which is why draco didn't deserve them. he knew this. they were happy with their friends, as much as he hated the trio, seeing them happy made everything okay. they would hang out with him alone; usually their hangouts consisted of late nights watching the stars from the astronomy tower, and that was enough for him.

it was a long last few weeks at hogwarts, students left and right running around, cramming as much knowledge into their heads as they could before the commencement of o.w.l.s and n.e.w.t.s. draco had felt like his entire week had consisted of rereading books and notes and he felt as if his head was about to explode. he hadn't seen y/n in a few days, so he decided to see if he could find them. he knew some of their favourite spots, so he threw his books in his bag and ventured off into the castle to track down his friend.

he searched the library first, as it was their go-to studying place, but after searching the entire library (it was quite full) he realized they weren't there. he checked their common room next, asking if anyone had seen them, only to yet again be found with nothing. he then checked the great hall, the courtyard, and the black lake. he'd checked all of their favourite spots, they were nowhere to be found. "where are they..?" he wondered out loud, thinking hard. there was only one last spot he could think of.

he looked up at the long staircase leading up to the astronomy tower, and as he began his ascent, he heard multiple voices, confusion washing over him. he hadn't ever seen anyone else up in the tower. he almost left when he heard their laugh. he smiled, until he listened closer and could make out the other voices. "how am i supposed to know all this? bloody hell i can barely remember where i've left my wand!" wealsey exclaimed, exasperated. "ron, if you actually paid attention you wouldn't have this problem!" granger replied. "we've been studying for hours, hermione! can't we do something else?" potter asked, clearly bored. draco had had enough. had y/n really taken them to their spot? he marched up the steps, scaring the four wizards at the top. "how could you bring them here?" he yelled, taking y/n aback. "draco, what are you talking about?" they asked, clearly confused. he looked around at the trio; his enemies, and scoffed. he turned on his heel and stormed off down the stairs.

he could hear y/n chasing after him, but chose to ignore it as he ran back to his common room. just as he stopped at the portrait, a hand grabbed his arm and pulled him back, shoving him into a storage closet and closing the door behind him. "what the hell-" he spat, before a hand covered his mouth. after a moment his eyes adjusted to the dark light in the closet and he found himself alone with y/n, not to his surprise. a small blush rose to his cheeks at their proximity, but much to his delight, it was much too dark for them to notice. he quickly remembered why he was in this situation and tried to push past them, only to be pushed back.

"you're not leaving until you answer my question. why were you so upset up in the astronomy tower?" draco looked at his feet, unable to make eye contact. "draco." they pushed, hearing him sigh. "you can't just ignore me-" "fine, alright?" he cut them off, "i haven't seen you in days y/n, you've been too busy studying or hanging out with.. potter." he spat, an unusually venomous tone leaving his lips. they opened their mouth to speak, but he wasn't finished. "all i wanted was to spend some time with you. i searched the entire school; only to find out you've taken them to our spot? how could you do this to me?" he breathed, his hurt obvious, tinged with another emotion he couldn't make out.

an awkward silence followed, neither of the two knowing what to say. "i didn't know it meant so much to you, draco." they started, slowly. "i really am sorry. i won't take them up there again." they offered an apologetic smile, and he forced a smile back, ready to leave. before he could though, they spoke again. "you don't have to answer, but.. may i ask why it means so much to you?" at this, draco froze. he wanted to say it was because of potter, but he knew it wasn't true. and he knew they did too. "well.. if you haven't noticed, not a lot of people.. like me. they fear me. they hate me." he spilled, avoiding meeting their gaze. "but you.. you never hated me. i may put up a strong front, but it was nice to find someone to talk to without worrying about titles, or blood status." they listened intently, focusing on every word. "once i saw you with potter and weasley.. in our spot.. it just made me feel so angry and betrayed. i dunno." he finished, the awkward feeling of confession weighing on him like a ton of bricks.

it was quiet, much too quiet for his liking, and he reached for the doorknob to leave. however, they grabbed his hand in theirs, and turned him to face them. they hesitated, before they spoke "draco, were you.. jealous? of me spending time with harry, ron and hermione?" he looked their in the eyes, seeing nothing but sympathy and genuine interest, before his gaze met the floor. they sighed, grasping his chin lightly and moving his gaze to theirs. "i am sorry. really. i never meant to make you feel like this. i promise i'll make it up to you." they smiled, and he felt himself smiling as well. they gently opened the closet door, stepping out. they paused, turning around to face him, and in a split second, they stepped up, kissing him on the cheek. "goodnight draco." with that, they scurried off, leaving him standing there speechless.

he blinked, before closing the closet and going straight to his dorm. he gently touched his cheek where their lips met his skin, a soft smile plastered on his lips. one reserved just for them. "mate, what are you smiling about?" blaise asked, a sleepy and amused expression on his face. "nothing zabini, go back to sleep." draco snapped jokingly, flopping down on his bed with one person on his mind. 'y/n l/n.. what are you doing to me?'
