Kris’s Point of View
“Even if we gave some flyers about our tryout, walang pumapansin! Last week pa natin ’yon binigay pero ni isa ay walang lumapit.” Padabog na umupo si Max sa couch, he was calm a few seconds ago but I guess, people change in just a snap.
His gaze was hitting me. I stared back. He sighed in disbelief. He did not dare to bring back our topic last week. Max planned to announce that the school would be conducting a tryout room to room to ensure that we could reach the students effectively but the teachers were against it. And that’s just one of the lame excuses that they gave to us. Even if we explain thoroughly, even if we only want 5 minutes, they still didn’t grant us.
“Kumusta ang Huwebes ninyo?” Isang nakaririnding tinig ang gumulo sa amin. Malawak pa itong nakangiti sabay upo sa tabi ni Max.
“You’re here, Arv,” bati ni Max pero hindi ko na lang ito pinansin.
Napakamot siya sa ulo. “Naging busy ako—”
“I told you to stop recruiting that Fernandez. Wala kang mapapala.” I shoot some icy glares at him.
“Huwag kang magsalita ng tapos,” matalinghagang usal niya, kumindat pa siya bago nagmamalaking nagsalita, “He was a runner.”
Napailing si Max. Napabuntong hininga naman ako. “Basketball is not all about running.”
“We can still train him—”
“We have rules here, Arvin.” Hindi ko na siya pinatapos. He’s been forcing that brat on the team. I didn’t what qualities he saw in Fernandez. I will definitely give him a punishment. Naging busy lang talaga ako.
“You didn’t know, SSC President?”
“He’s the only one who finished your task. You know, about collecting codenames,” pagbabahagi ni Arvin.
That guy? Impossible! That kind of aura he has, he’s freaking lazy! He was yawning when I saw him during the orientation.
Maybe Max saw my unfiltered reaction, he smiled then he supported what Arvin said, “Yes, it’s true. But I don’t have any information on how he gathered 30 codenames.”
“Thirty?!” Nanlaki pa ang mga ni Arvin.
“Lower your voice, Arvin. You’re inside the SSC Room,” pagsaway ko sa kaniya.
30 codenames in just 3 days? He’s lucky.
“By the way, I felt like this school is planning to remove the basketball club,” bulong ni Arvin, ang noo ay nakakunot na habang napapailing pa.
I already know that. I can’t help but feel sickened by how they treat us. The school doesn’t trust the basketball team because they always believe that the team cannot lift the name of the school higher. They are more focused on other sports. If they are planning to get rid of it, I guess I need to use my wild card.
A message pops up on my phone. Mabilis ko itong tiningnan. I was relieved when I read the message. It’s already 12:50 in the afternoon.
“At exactly 1 PM, recruit them all,” I commanded him.
