TRINGGGG!
An earsplitting ring rang through her ears.
"Oh you dumb alarm, I'll kill you today" She mumbled to herself, pulling her hands out from the sheets to destroy her alarm and so she did.
Well done girl!
Stretching her hands out in the air, she sat up on her bed letting a huge yawn escape her mouth as strands of her chocolate brown hair stuck to her mouth fell on her face whilst she cracked her cervical bones.
Groaning in irritation, she reluctantly pulled herself from her bed's cozy embrace.
"Another day at uni and it's going to suck, as usual, all the best Ms.Ahn," She told herself as she knot her hair up in a bun.
Donning a white rib-knit oversized turtleneck sweater and a dusty grey, long coat with a pair of black monster sneakers, she laid hold of her brown sling and struggled to plug in her earphones as she made her way outside.
Sauntering her way down, she smirked at the sky which was-
Nothing at all today.
It was like a child had begun to draw on it with a pencil and then erased it in a way that smudged and spread the grey. As the notes of hard metal blessed her ears, she plopped down at the back of the bus.
Iseul doesn't like rock and metal, not really.
Acoustic, soulful music is her kind of music. Rock and metal are just what helps her escape the terrible part of her reality. She gets to wake up to the tense and unpleasant atmosphere of her house every day. It killed her as a kid to see herself crying herself to sleep while her friends told her stories about their family vacation. She hated faking a smile and listening to her classmates speak about their vacation to the class while all she could say was "I spent my vacation with my parents at home. We watched our favorite shows, I and my mother baked a cake for my father and on Saturday night, we had our little picnic on the terrace under the stars..."
Back then, the ten-year-old Ahn Iseul didn't know if her words were just made up lies or what she wished her family should have been like. Growing up with people who lied all the time, Ahn Iseul despised lying or anyone who lied. All the stories she shared weren't lies. She did spend her vacation at home and she and her parents did watch their favorite shows, baked cakes and had a picnic under stars, maybe not in reality but she dreamt of it. Every damn night.
At a point the dreams troubled her so much, they'd start to make her anxious and haunt her in reality as well. It was until Ahn Iseul found her peace in the notes of what they called music. If the piano calmed her soul, metal helped her avoid those she didn't require in her life. Every genre, every note had become a part of Ahn Iseul's mind and soul.
Ever since music had become the reason for her survival and the terrible life she was now happily living.
Initially, nothing made her happier than escaping the reality however the latter got tiring. She was struggling and that house-that home got more sweltering day by day. She had tried running away, she had tried everything she could, but nothing made anything better.
Happiness..... she has lost hope in finding it. Not that she thinks it doesn't exist. It probably does.
To keep on trying to live somehow, to be strong, to keep playing in what looks like a field but is a bog-the bog that pulls you in deep every time you find that pinch of happiness and try to survive until... she fears It'll take her somewhere where that pinch of happiness won't exist anymore.
Sighs.
With the thoughts circling in her mind and the notes of the piano now soothing her lugs, she entered the campus that boasted regal brick buildings, accented with dozens of beautiful fountains, statues, and sculptures with arches and ivory.
